9 weeks on citalopram 20mgs looking for some advice please

hi iam on 9 weeks on citalopram 20mg upped to 20mgs nearly six weeks ago . still getting side effects nausea in the morning tension and tightness in the neck funny head sensations light head thats ongoing through the day . shaky feeling that starts as i wake . achy legs . still get wore out easy . are these still normal as getting worried that iam getting worse or the tablets arent working . very fearful of having to change them as suffered most of this year having side effects on off meds and withdrawal to go back on again . i know it takes time but just worring . any words of comfort would be a help thanks lloyd

    hi well I'm 8 weeks into an increase to 40mg of citalapram and I feel exactly the same as you. I do feel better mentally but the nausea and physical symptoms are dragging me down. I'm sorry that's probably not much help. I'd also like to know if it's normal this far in? good luck!

    Hi lloyd,the tablets are working,that's why you are feeling nauseous. Antidepressants raise serotonin levels in the brain,serotonin is also involved in multiple functions throughout the body,including nausea. By having nausea,it indicates that the Citalopram is raising your serotonin levels and thereby doing its job. My experience with these medications is that from week 8- 12 I feel worse than week 4-8. After week 12 things start to calm down and slowly improve. I think the first 12 weeks are the worst. You should be looking very much long term on these medications,staying where you are on the dosage and same medication. Unfortunately this time of year is stressful and depressing with the weather and Christmas and the pandemic. You have to take all these things into consideration as everyone feel the effects at this time of year. Look forwards to having improvements in 2022,feel positive that you are on the correct medication,keep going and you will get better. Take care.

      hi ian thanks again for replying i think iam just worrying to much in my head. .did you find anything that helped you well going through weeks 8-12 .that i could maybe try i push myself to get out for a walk each day not matter how i feel or what the weather is doing. i know ive come along way in a short time on these meds already 9 weeks ago i was bed ridden and only got out to go the loo and that was like i had climbed a mountain. iam doing medatation and reki to help and trying to keep my mind off the symptoms which is what i find hard at times when i feel so crap . are you on citalopram how long as it been since your recovery . thanks again for messaging it really does help to talk to people that have been there keep well lloyd
