A@p repair check up after failed repair

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi had failed a@p op in May of this year (confirmed at 6 week check). Been back in work in a busy nursery school and have been experiencing back pain/stomach pain since I've been back to work in September which gets worse as the week goes on and fri I am back and for to the loo every 5 mins. Does anyone else feel like this? Just come back from seeing consultant who quite frankly made me feel like I was morning about nothing. He said prolapse is same size since June. He is sending me for an ultrasound scan but as far as he's concerned it is a case of put up and shut up. Really frustrated as I still have a prolapse ! X

    Hi Caroline,

I often wonder if the consultants really understand how painful and debilitating it is living with a prolapse and the fact that we want to continue working surely we should be supported as much as possible. Let's face it who wants to be stuck at home and unable to work.

Definitely sounds like you are doing further damage as the week goes on! I would definitely be trying to negotiate less days/hours throughout the working week with employer at least try cut back to what you can comfortably cope with.

It is so very frustrating when we have a need or want to work more than we can cope with and three labour market is just not flexible enough to accommodate female problems!

So sorry it's not working out to well so far, maybe the scan will show something that can be easily fixed. Fingers crossed for you.

    Phyl x💖

I am sorry what you are going through! Not to pry but how did your repair fail? Was it done by a urogynecogist?

Arh Caroline I know what you mean. I'm back to work in a special school and I have pain when bending forward. Dr gave me a 4 week light duties but head said no such thing as light duties. She said if not fit I should be on the sick. I was gutted. But after talking to HR she allowed me to refrane from changing children (8/10 in nappies. 5/6yr olds) but building it up. Also no bending when tidying up. Get kids to do it or go down on knees where it is more barable. I'm half way through the 4 weeks and I'm lying on sofa with a hot water bottle on my pelvic area which is so tender and it's only mon!! Was told if not doing full duties by 7th October I have to go sick. It has me so stressed as I know there are easier classes wishing school but she didn't put me in them. I'm hoping to go back to Drs this week and get another opinion on what the pain is. I'm so fed up. Cried more since going back to work than I did in my recovery when off. Xx

Ah Fi, it's a nightmare isn't it? Feel as though I'm a hypochondriac the way he treated me. Hope you start to feel better soon x

I'm sorry you are going through this, Caroline.  I hope you can switch to a more understanding urogyn.

i don't know if you have already tried this, but maybe a pessary  would help alleviate symptoms.   There are a lot of different types and maybe there is one that could help you.

It sounds as though you're not fit yet for full time work, and that's no surprise in a nursery. I remember the gynae physio looking astonished when I said I only felt properly well again after 8 months, and bending to pick something up still wasn't good. I expect it's the bending and lifting that's affecting you as well as the tiredness of the environment. Could you negotiate shorter or fewer days? And, more to the point, will the consultant agree to another repair? Mine wasn't keen to repeat the failed cystocele, but did a rectocele repair as that had become a problem and 'would hold the anterior prolapse up'.
