A previous diagnosis of osteoarthritis in the hip but now severe pain in my back and both hips

Hi there, I am wanting some advice really.  I have had a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in the hips.  I have lost over two stone in weight recently.  Last saturday, I started to feel a lot of pain in both hips and now in my lower back.  This has continued throughout the week and paracetamol has not been effective.

The pain in my back is relieved by laying flat but sat upright it is quite painful.  I am limited with anti inflammatories, as take aspirin.  I'm going back to see my gp as soon as possible as feel I need further x-rays now.  I do exercise a lot and for my job, can walk up to 3 miles a day and also do walk on my days off.

I am also looking at alternative therapies and am considering acupuncture and my wife has trained in massage and am looking at some aromatherapy massages. It seems genetic as my mum has it and my grandma did.  I have bone spurs on either heel and these are not as problematic as have had these for years.

Thank you for looking at this and any advice is appreciated. I'm quite worried as am 50 years old and have a physical job as a healthcare assistant.

Hi can I ask what symptoms you have with your hip?  I’ve just had X-ray on my hip to see if I have osteoarthritis of hip already have it on both knees and hands. The pain clinic offers alternative treatments but waiting list is about a year 😩

It could be something as simple as you pulled a muscle in your back lifting something. Rest it and see if it goes away otherwise get urgent appointment to see GP. Ours operates a triage system for same day appointments and if you are in a lot of pain you will get to see someone that day
