Hi, Hope You're Having A Good Day, I Have Been On Citalopram For 4 And Half Months, The First 2 Months on 20 Mg And The Rest On 40 Mg, For Anxiety, And Felt A Bit Good on 20 Mg, Just To Be Specific There Was An Evening Where I Felt Great Only For A Couple Of Hours, The Next Few Days After That I Felt Really Awful, So I Upped My Dose To 40 Mg, And I Have Been On It For 11 Weeks, The Thing Is I'm Still Feeling Awful, I Have A Couple Of Questions
1 - Should I Give This Dose A Bit More Time To See If It Works ? Or Get Back To 20 Mg ?
2 - Is " Derealization " A Symptom From Having Anxiety ?, And If It is, Will It End With Citalopram ?
3 - Any Good Feedback About Citalopram In Terms Of Social Anxiety ?
Any Answer Will Be Appreciated, Thank You ??

Late reply to this.
What you described re feeling great for a few hours one evening and rubbish the next day is exactly how I recovered. Recovery often comes in waves, here one minute, gone the next. Its normal. Its not necessary to up your dose as it doesn't matter what dose you take as you'll probably still get this wave effect.
Each evening I'd feel well for an hour or 2 and when I woke in the morning the anxiety would be back. Come the evening again I'd feel good again ..... this was recovery starting to happen. The feeling began to slowly creep into the afternoon, and the rest of the day as time wore on, and around 6 months I began waking with no anxiety.
So, when this starts happening just carry on as you are. You're recovering - the meds are working. Because you felt bad the next day is normal - you don't need to up your dose.

After being a week off this med I've noticed that a lot of my symptoms that gave me the most anxiety had actually left or atleast havnt been nearly as intense, my physciatrist actually told me(first time ever seeing her last week) that she never prescribes this med because the negatives far outweigh the positives in every way, and that what you have to go through to get to a point where you see improvement is too much, I agreed and she put me hydroxzine and honestly besides the added stress of some eye issues that i think i just got cleared up today and the head ache of being off cit and think I'm getting sick, lol this is mentally the best I've felt in a super long time, like 5 or 6 months

I found my nearly 6 months on cit terrible.....except the first 7 weeks oddly. I am hoping the venoflaxine will help as I am still unwell just without so many side effects. If I get many side effects from the ven I may try coming off all meds slowely to see if that helps. One more try !!!
It obviously works for some people but not others.

Hi Sarah did you start the venoflexene today. Please let me know how you get on. If you do start it
My anxiety wasn't as bad last night. The difference between last night and the last couple of nights is just crazy. I'm scared of trying something else. So I'm still hoping that this combination will work out.

Stopped cit. So far so good. No terrible side effects. I know the next couple of weeks could be bumpy as cit withdrawal and ven start up.
Am glad to have stopped the cit.
I ll keep you I formed.

Hi Sarah, how are things going with your swap. Hope that everything is going well.
I see the doctor in the week and I must say that i cannot wait. Today has been awful for me. My anxiety is quite bad. One good day one bad day i just don't get it. Why does that happen. Anyway I have made up my mind that if things are still the same when i go to see my doctor I'm coming off of the citalopram.
Have a great new year.

Started ven on weds. It has been a struggle. I think more cit withdrawals than anything else.
Been a bit better today. Not expecting any improvement for a few weeks.
It looked like the cit might be working for you.....are you sure you don t want to give it a bit longer ?

Hi Sarah
I'm not sure what to do about my meds. I felt terrible earlier but feel okay now I will wait and see what i feel like before i see the doctor next week. My doctor will want me to come off of the citalopram when i tell her what is happening sometimes. But I am so afraid of any withdrawals that I will get from changes that i make.
I'm glad that things have been a bit better for you today. Hopefully things will keep going in the right direction.

How are you now on the venlafaxine. I hope that you are doing well.
I went to see my doctor today. My anxiety was still bad. So she has decided to try me on venlafaxine with the mirtazapine. I am to reduce my citalopram .And then in two weeks time i can start the venlafaxine. I have some diazepam that she said that i can take if I need to. My mirtazapine has been cut to 30mgs as well. I must take my venlafaxine twice a day 37.5 .And the mirtazapine before I go to bed. I must admit that I am really scared about the changes. But fingers crossed it will be okay

How am I ? Hard to say. I went to 75mg yesterday so 1 week of cit. I ve felt quite high last night and this morning which was not unpleasant or pleasant. Had little motivation today and quite detatched. Not really anxious though. Not sure what is cit withdrawal and what is ven start up. It is definately doing something but not sure how I feel about it yet.
No sweating or nausea but headache still. I was getting them anyway.
I ll keep you posted. X

Hi Sarah
How are you today. Hopefully things are better than they were.
I made my first cut of the citalopram yesterday. I just have to hope that i don't suffer from withdrawal symptoms.

Hi Sarah
I'm not too bad at the moment. Like you i have felt better since I cut my citalopram to 10mg from the 20mg Will let you know how my reduction goes.
I am so pleased that you are feeling a little bit better today.

How long will you be on 10mg and when do you start the ven ?

I am to take 10mg of citalopram for 2 weeks and then take the venlafaxine after that. My doctor only gave me 2 weeks worth of the citalopram at 10 mg so that's all I have.
I'm hoping my withdrawals won't be too bad. Haha.
But I've been on citalopram for 2 years now. 1 year at 10mg and then it was upped to 20mg because the 10 did not seem to be doing much. I wish I had changed to something else instead of increasing the dose then.
I think that sometimes we know that we maybe should try something else but are afraid of things not working out again. Or that we may get really bad withdrawals.
I will not go any higher than 75mg on the venlafaxine either. Says me. But I'm to start 75mg straight away 37.5 am and the same in the afternoon. No easing into it. I

I wish I had not gone up on the cit too but you do what you think is best.
My psychiatrist wants me up to 150 even 225. I am willing to go up if necessary but I don t want to rush it.
So far I am pleased with the change but it is too early to know. If it is good I want to drop the 45mg of mirt to 30mg.

After withdrawing from 30mg of cit about 2 weeks ago(and i went to 20 for 2 days ten for 1 day and quit) I experienced slight headaches and a little bit of uneasiness but it passed pretty quickly I mean 3-4 days and now looking back it was the best thing I ever did. The cit was making my anxiety so much worse and couldn't sleep for over 6 months except for a about an hr to 4 in a good night. Don't look at it from an apprehensive or negative frame of mind. Be positive about the change and know you are doing yourself a huge favor by changing and if you stay positive the change and negative symptoms won't be nearly as bad, good luck

How long were you on citalopram Cody? I've been on citalopram for 2 years altogether. But I will try and take on board yours and Sarahs very good advice. Relax if i can and try not to worry about any withdrawals i may get.

Only about 6 months and I don't recommend coming off that quickly I just couldn't take it any more lol but yes that's the most important is to relax and try not give the cit any power mentally from you, just know you are taking the most important step by changing. In a short time hopefully the new meds will be the correct ones and you'll be able to move on happily with your life

I started my venlaflexene on Saturday .Decided to bit the bullit and start.I didnt see the point in prolongingthings. My withdrawels are terrible. But i am hoping that the ven will compensate for that, sooner rather than later.I only taking 37.5mg of ven each day at the moment. But will be increasing that dose to twice a day soon

I ve been doing ok. Day 9 on 75mg. Not too many start up side effects and the cit withdrawals have been ok except for the first few days off.
I am cautiously optimistic about the ven. I don t want to go up whilst on 45mg or mirt but worried about reducing that. Seeing psychiatrist this morning so we ll see.

Hi Sarah
How are you. I hope that you got on at your appointment alright today.
My withdrawals from stopping the citalopram were awful. Anyway decided that I had had enough of the suffering so stopped the venoflexene as well and am now only taking my mirtazapine 45mg and will start to reduce that next month.
I used to take vitamin b3 at one time to help with my anxiety and depression but stopped because i thought that they were not helping. But decided to start taking it again Sunday. But at a much larger dose no anxiety and no depression. This vitamin is amazing. I did post about it last night but I can't find the post now. So maybe it was taken down .If i knew how to private message you i would have. To tell you a bit more, about vitamin b3. If you would like any information let me know, and I will see if I can message you. But if you want to read up it online you can as well. I feel amazing today. And will always take this vitamin now
