hi , i have had ibs symptoms for several years but only diagnosed properly a few years ago , i get flair ups with certain foods ( beans, sweetcorn, onions, tomatos, pizza, nuts etc ) - and when stressed , i used to get quite constipated but for a while i have started taking prunes to combat this - i have maybe 5/6 in the evening with some yogurt - but lately i have abdo pain and increased wind overnight which sometimes keep me awake farting !! followed by a loose bowel movement i the morning , if i dont take the prunes though i get constipated again ?? its a vicious circle - any advice please ? does it sound like the prunes causing the wind abdo pain and diarrhoea ?? after the early morning loose stool i normally dont go again - although occasionally do once or twice ??
thank you

That is a lot of prunes, try to cut them down, maybe a few teaspoons of prune juice instead. All the foods yoyou mentioned are very bad for ibs, try having a smaller amount of them, or cut out.
Good luck

Prunes are very laxative; try cutting down on them; you are taking rather a lot.

I tried prune juice during my very first IBS flare up and it relieved my constipation normally without giving me very loose stools or diarrhoea. I didn't take too much at one time.

Hmm, i don't eat prunes, in fact next to no fruit really. I get persistently bunged up then painful but I also get really bad acid reflux too, well sharp pain. You could try to see with less prunes but if it's all of a sudden you need to think if it's gone on as long as you've been eating the prunes. If not are you stressed, worried about anything new? They could cause your bowel to be loose. It's a case of eliminating 1 thing that it could be 1 by 1.
