Acid Reflux

i have been waking up with a bitter taste in my mouth for the past few years I was told that it"s acid reflux. Endoscopy showed esophagitis. I have been on Dexilant and now on pantoprozole. Meds are not helping. Does anyone has these symptoms and what has helped?

Hi dancinG,  Yes, I had the same and Dexilant (very expensive) was the only drug that helped.  I actually was stopping it a month ago and my doc wanted me to stay on it daily since it looks like my acid reflux has inflammed my esophagitis severely and I need to heal.  I have been bouncing around from specialist to specialist the past 2 years and finally am meeting with Neurologist at Penn Medicine that will be able to determine if I do or do not have MSA.  I have all the symptoms and somehow my numerous physicians did not connect the dots.  Good luck in taking care of your situation....... please be sure to be your own best advocate... Just wish it didn't take me 2 years to finally get an answer.....rolleyes

Thank you. May I ask, what is MSA and what are the symptoms?  I was on Dexilant but my new insurance would not cover it so I had to switch to pantoprozole.

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).  From what I have researched only a very small percentage of people have this disease.  My point in sharing with you is that you really have to be your own best advocate.  By posting on here, you are reaching out.  Good for you.... As a result, you and many others hopefully will have good results.  I was actually on Nexium for 3 years before Dexilant (yes, very expensive) and decided to have a cardiologist examine me for what was causing my chest pain.  The result was 80% left ventricle blockage and a stent was placed to open the artery.  I'm sure you have "googled" eating with acid reflux.  You may benefit from focusing on restricting what you eat.  Continue to address your acid reflux with your physician and hopefully you will improve soon!

When I had the endoscopy he noticed some bile as well as acid reflux - there is a Facebook group bile acid reflux you can join

There is also a Facebook group called acid watchers diet I think based on book by Dr Aviv

      It has been helpful
