Advice

Hi, I've been very paranoid for the past few days concerning herpies. On Friday I had protected vaginal sex and did not have him rub against me unless I had my underwear on. He did not perform oral on me. Monday I woke up with a sore throat which later on that night turned into chills and a headache. It's now Wednesday and the only symptom remaining is my sore throat but it's feeling a lot better. I have no pain, burning, or itching down there but I have major anxiety when it comes to sex. It's been 5 days and I have examined myself and there are no sores, ulcers, blisters etc. I was just wondering if my cold/low grade flu sounds like a coincidence or should I be concerned? Thanks for all the answers/input.

    You are worrying unnecessarily.

Thank you for your reply. I know I must sound crazy for worrying but I have a major sex anxiety. I was sexually assaulted 3 months ago and ever since then I overthink every sexual situation and if I have an STI. Thanks again

You took all precautions possible and a first outbreak would typically appear within the first week, up to two weeks. You would normally expect more than just flu-like symptoms, and flu-like symptoms aren't even a given with genital herpes. Many people don't get that symptom. Most telling symptoms are lesions and (especially for women) burning urination with no bacterial cause.

Usually a sore bump or spot that eventually ulcerates like a canker sore in your mouth. Blistering may not be obvious and scabbing is not necessary. Depends on where the lesion occurs. Can be a single lesion to several or many, with or without clustering.
