Ahhhh.. whats happening

Hello everyone.

I was just diagnosed on Fridayand still realing.  I would really like your input on a complex history.  I dont know how long I have had this or who I might have exposed.  Its a lot of info to wade through.  But if you have the time and energy I would love your input. 

Names Changed to Protect the Innocent:

 

SID

Circa 2003, Casual partner, Sid.  First time we ever had sex I got vaginal infection.  A-typical, no odor, no discharge, just painful inflamed vagina.  Doc gave me flagyl, cleared right up. Symptom relief within 12 hours of starting antibiotic.  Every single time I slept with this man the infection occurred (2x per month for 3 mos).  Every time cleared up with antibiotics. 

Greg

No sex for a year, then, 2004, new partner, Greg, same thing.  Same infection. Every single time infection cleared by antibiotics.  Went on for a few months. 

Mitch

No sex till 2009(5 years).  No issues whatsoever. Had monogamous relationship with Mitch who had excessive number of previous partners. First time we slept together, infection.  Cleared by antibiotics. 

This went on for a few months until the antibiotics stopped working.  Deciding my bug had become antibiotic resistant I began acquire other types of antibiotics.  They seemed to work, although I do remember struggling at times, feeling like nothing was working.  Never had a lesion or any external signs of any problem. 

I had doctors tell me that some people are just sensitive to other people’s flora and fauna and sperms just probably throws my system out of whack.  I started douching with hydrogen peroxide after sex and taking lots of pro biotics.  I had some success with this(we were together 3 years).  I began to have times when we could have intercourse without triggering an infection.  Last sexual encounter was November of 2013. 

I remember getting an infection at this last encounter and having a devil of a time getting rid of it.  Tried lots of antibiotics, went to lots of docs.  Nothing worked for quite some time.  I think it finally cleared with a round of clindymycin. 

Abstinence until February 2015 (15mos).  No infections, no issues whatsoever.

New partner Mike.February 2015, and sure enough, vaginal infection after sex.  I was able to clear with antibiotics (again, relief as soon as I start taking them). They quickly stopped working (in hindsight, too quick to be due to antibiotic resistance), but I was able to clear things up relatively well with metrogel (antibiotic gel).   About 2 mos in that stopped working.

Went to doc who said my vagina looked angry (I had been trying home remedies that were likely irritating)  She found a bunch of white blood cells and inflammation, but no bacteria.  Never mentioned any herpes like stuff.  She only tested for common vaginal pathogens, not thethe stuff mentioned below.

Infection kept coming back any time I had intercourse.  Went to specialist.  Specialist found e. coli and kelbsiella p.  Unusual pathogens for vagina, but a different kind of antibiotic cleared me up. 

Then, first time ever, infection came without intercourse (I am sexually active with partner of 9 months, but typically the infection was within hours of intercourse, this came after a week of abstinence).  Up till then ALSWAY associated with intercourse.  Tried new antibiotics, didn’t work.  Went to doc here in town (not my specialist) and asked her to see if new bacteria was the culprit.  Also pointed her to a teeny tiny pin head of a bump, more goose flesh looking than anything, at the top of the labia.  She wanted to swab for herpes.  Had never occurred to me and I knew it would be negative.  She broke it open and swabbed.  WHAAAAAAAAT!!! How can it be?  Positive for type 2.

I now have pain and pinching on labia and vulvua.  I never had this before.  I can see some other little teeny tiny bumps, but I would never notice if I wasn’t inspecting close.  The vaginal “infection” feels the same as the others, but the vulvar/labial pain is new.

I have elevated vaginal ph, which is indicative of bacteria.  Not sure if internal herpes sores might cause this as well. 

 

So…. Here is the riddle…. Where did I get this?

Thanks so much for your input.  I know it a lot ofinfor to sort through, and its really anyones guess.

    Just got blood test

    Mike and i wont have "opportunity" for about 2 weeks

    I guess i will check out the results and decide on the particulars of the conversation from there

    OMG!!!!!!

    I just realized, that I went to a new gyno out of desperation about three mos ago.  The one I was seeing had thrown up her hands and refered me to a vulvular clinic in another city.  It was months before I could get in so I went to this new doc hoping for a miracle (plus she could get me in quickly).  I thought she would find the bacterial culpurit and save me with a new antibiotic.  Docs all over were getting tired of my cronic pleas for antibiotics and tests.

    This woman (I think she was a PA not a doc) said I had vulvodynia.  First time I ever heard of it, but basically means you are just in pain all the time and no one knows why.

    She gave me a componded lidacaine cream and instructed me to rub it all over a cotton ball and insert 20 mins before sex.  This would make penetration less painful.   Basically, she enabled me to have sex while in the midst of an outbreak.  

    As I am coming to terms with this I am convinced that I have had internal herpes this entire 20 years of doctors and mysterious bacteria.  Thousands of dollars on docs and antibiotics.  Not to mention how hard the antibiotics have been on my system.  

    It is criminal that I never got a correct diagnosis, and was basically encouraged to go forth and infect while using lidacain.  

    Mike has never had symptoms, but no way he hasnt been exposed.  I tried to play through the pain on multiple occasions at the advice of doc.  I did a bit of research on internal herpes, and I am a classic case.  

    Unbelievable.

      It is pretty bad how they did few tests/swabs on you before and never identified a cause in all these years! So, do you think it was Sid? Are you able to contact any of your exes? This is like a detective/mystery novel! Lol

      Looking back i remember the first infection coming about two days after our first encounter

      He had multiple partners

      I probably had some bacterial problems along the way that were secondary to herpes and responded to antibiotics.

      I still know Greg and he has never said anything. I dont know how to find mitch

      I guess if my blood test comes back with minimal or no antibodies i will re-think it,

      But i bet i have a high number

      I feel like i should go post on the BV board. So others know. Thats where i used to hang out lol

      Mike.... I am way more into the relationship than him

      I suspect he will leave. He is not my soul mate, but it will make me sad

      Sid H.S. Vicious and the HerpeSex Pistols! Sorry, but ever since you named him Sid, that's all I could think of, lol. It would be interesting if you could locate him after all these years and ask.

      But looking forwards, yeah, that would suck about Mike. I am not a firm believer in soul mates and The One, but to lose someone whom you really care about always hurt. HOWEVER, you have not lost him so far! He may well surprise you!! So remain hopeful, but be prepared. smile

      That's a definite positive, and not a very recent infection. Pity they don't tell you the exact score once it's over 5, not that that would necessarily tell you much.

      Yeah, could be Sid, but honestly it could be any of the others, except maybe not Mike if he's fairly new. Are you going to suggest you both test for STDs, as an indirect way of bringing this up and finding out his status?

      I talked to greg the other day,

      Hes negative. Mitch and i were together for three years. Although i got "infections" when we had sex, he never had a symptom.

      I remember thinking sid had given me some weird bacteria because the issue started about two days after our first encounter

      Its crazy that he doesnt have symotoms. I am sure i had sex with him mid outbreak with the help of Lidacane.

      Unbelievable that doctors dont test for this when a patient presents with pain that has no cause!! There needs to be some education around this!!

      My last doc before i went to specialist found excessive white blood cells but no bacteria. She threw up her hands and said there was nothing she could do for me, that i should try stopping all treatments. Sheesh.... Seems like a blood test was in order.
