Hi All,
I am 6 months post TKR and going on holiday in 10 days time. We will be flying to Dubrovnik before embarking on our cruise. The flight itself will be just short of 3 hrs and not being a seasoned traveller, I am wondering if for this journey, I will need to wear those travel socks, if so I am wondering if the socks you have to wear for six weeks after your op will suffice. Unlike many I have seen, mine given to me by the private hospital I was in are quite smart and comfortable and comfortable to wear. If needed would these suffice.
Many thanks

I had. TKR one year ago and went to UK from Australia for 5 weeks from July this year.
i wore the stockings, I bought Scholl ones.
I can't stress how important it is to walk around the plane as much as you can.
on my trip we flew for 8 hrs to Mauritius and I walked every hour, I had no problems in Mauritius. I wore the socks on the flight.
On the flight to Paris 12 hours, I tried to walk but I was so tired that I didn't walk enough and my legs swelled up.
We took the train from Paris to London, then travelled around seeing friends and relatives for 4 weeks.
The whole time my legs and ankles were swollen.
On the plane back to Oz, I walked and put my feet up.
I got off the plane with skinny legs and ankles!
Have a great trip.

We did a trip to oz long before I had knee problems and it took us 24 hrs from London after travelling down from the North East of England. We had hoped that we might do something similar this year until, unfortunately the knee problems started with the resultant TKR. Being only six months post TKR we decided that we would just do a short flight of about 2hrs 30 mins to Dubrovnik and then do a cruise from there taking in Venice, Kotor, Korkula and a few other places on the way. It was the flight I was concerned about and wondering if I still had the need to wear the stockings. After reading your post and the others that have been put forward, I have taken all on board and will wear my 'sexy socks' that I was issued with at the hospital as they did a wonderful job after my TKR.
Again many thanks and by the way we loved oz !!
