Alcohol and anxiety

hi there

can anyone give me advice on stopping alcohol and its effects on the brain? i have severe anxiety and i drink heavily. is this a major factor of my anxiety ?

    Hello,

    Yes, it's most definitely a big factor. People who drink as a way of coping with anxiety end up with an alcohol problem and much worse anxiety, I speak from experience. When you are anxious, you have a drink (or 2 or 3) and the anxiety vanishes but then the next day the anxiety is hell, so you drink again to stop it and again and again.

    I went through hell and was not able to stop on my own, I had to ask for help. I have been sober for 20 years now and although I still have anxiety, it's never overwhelmingly out of control like it used to be.

    I would encourage you to get help, you can have the life you for sure deserve.
