Am I going through menopause

Hi there, I am 53 and have been having the odd irregular period for about a year but pretty much regular, sometimes heavy sometimes light, I have had increased anxiety and panic attacks to the point I've had to go on anti depressants, I have had anxiety for years but it's really been bad since last May, I've got to be going through menopause at this age but all blood tests and hormone levels ok, I'm confused but I feel as though something has changed I don't feel right at all

    Hi

All the weird stuff happens when your period starts to become irregular.  have your hormones bloods done again in a while.  mine were fine at the start, then the next set had changed hugely after only a month or so.

If you don't feel right, then it is most likely happening.

    take careneutral

Yes, the same happened to me. I had one test done on my FSH and it was normal. Then 3 weeks later (on day 21 of cycle) my FSH was through the roof. Actually all my levels were showing that I am close to menopausal. At that point I had not even missed on period yet....

Dawn, my anxiety and panic attacks soar if I touch caffeine. I now drink decaff tea, (daren't even touch my much loved coffee at the moment that is also decaff because depending on the make, even decaff coffee can have a good amount of caffeine in it). I'm even scared of chocolate at the moment too as that contains it.

It definitely works to avoid caffeine and too much sugar. If you can quell your panic attacks and anxiety down, it should hopefully help you a little. It seems the hormone tests can be very unreliable. We need them taking while we're among the symptoms we get for a better reading of them. I hope it improves for you soon.

Menopause changes minutes to minutes.  Estrogen is on it's own roller coaster ride, up and down, up and down.  If you look at the trees outside blowing in the wind, that's how I feel.

My question to the group - has anyone tried red wine or chardonnay?  Not that we want to turn into alcoholics, but maybe it would help?

I'm a Realtor, I can go in and out of clients houses with a flask in my briefcase?  What do y'll think????

Funny Joanne, but you're setting yourself for even more symtoms! Doctor told me avoid alcohol, the liver is also on the same hormonal ride as the rest of you. But luckily for me I don't drink wine.

Understood.  The ride is too bumpy already without adding more hormonal fluctulations, there goes my "wine fantasy"  thanks Pat!!
