Am still suffering Menopause at 62. Shouldn't it be over by now?

I take HRT that is considered safe because I have had a hysterectomy. I went through my 50's without too much bother. About 3 years ago all of my symptoms became much worse. I have a lot of muscle and joint pain, chronic tiredness, depression, itchy skin etc. My hips are so bad I had exrays and scans done--was sure I would be having hip replacements. The results showed my hip joints are in perfect condition! I AM glad about that---however the pain in them is still there, as bad as ever. I have always been super active, mainly with my work on our cattle properties. Now I have lost interest and have to push myself every day. All I feel like doing is taking pain killers and going to bed. However, I try not to give in to it. I actually feel my best when I am working outside or planning some project. So my advice is to keep active, preferably with something out of the house.

    Hello Coralie,

I couldn't agree more regarding your last sentence. Spot on. I am not taking HRTs but have found this past year to be much of the same as you describe.

I too feel best when I am active. Many days I really have to push myself to get moving, but I hear this phase will pass. Looking forward to that day.

Morning Coralie. i am now 64 and ive recently been to to the drs. about my persiitent aching legs and  hips, having a blood test  next week. i too have to push myself everyday, wake up feeling well just yukky and achy, i could easily go back to bed too but i dont.i also get the itchy skin especially after showers and just cant find the cause every morning. i force myself to have breakfast, shower and put on my face for the day and act normal when people come round. its like waking up with the flu every morning. Not easy for me to keep active as i have M.E. as well but do agree with you best option is to try. i make reborn dolls which isnt a very active job  but i find it very theraputic all the same. Im not on any HRT as the vagifem made me bleed again and gave me period like pains so had to stop using them. WE jhave all heard of the mind over matter, well i think us menapausal women have become very good at having to try snd put this into practice!

      Hi Sue,

Your ME could easily be a big part of your problem. That makes it so much harder to work out what to do to help yourself! Well, you and some of the others involved with this forum can take heart that you have helped someone else already--me! I am so lucky that I don't have anything else wrong with me as well as menopause! and yes, have tried convincing myself that it's all in my head---but not having any luck with that so far!

Hope you get a break soon!

      Thanks Coralie

I think none of us has the problem with it all being in our heads, just an easy explanation and cop out for some doctors. i think all doctors that help us should be qualified as in gone through it themselves and all be women, if a man had to go through it im sure there would be more help and understanding out there. Well im off to lay down to recover from my half hr. trip out like 2 hrs ago.  I may have M.E. but im lucky im still not suffering as bad as many on hear going through the menapause

      .

Hope you mange to sort something out that helps you too
