Anal skin tag removal after haemorrhoid surgery (halo or banding). Is it worth it?

Posted , 19 users are following.

I have large anal skin tags left over from healed hemorrhoids/piles. The skin tags are bothering me by rubbing and itching. Did you get them removed? Was it worth it?

(I've had both banding and halo surgery done in the past)

    Hi @anniej44,

I have done the Hal Rar surgery here in Australia I'm on week 7, all went well, pain free after 2 weeks but week 6, I started to notice part of my bum is swollen but no pain only uncomfortable. Not sure if that is a skin tag, What did you do with your skin tag and is it gone now?

      hi @rizz

hope you are doing well. how did you go with your skin tag?

i had my HAL RAR in Australia 10 days ago.

i was discharged with a painkiller regime to take every 3 hours which i slowly reduced as the pain was not bad.

however on day 8 i had pain in right side of the bum and it kept getting worse .

i saw my surgeon on next day and he said its all looking good . when i asked about the new pain its normal as i has a blood clot in the haemorrhoid which was on the right side and that is now on its way to heel .

pain continues to day 10 (today ) and this morning i could feel as the haemorrhoid is back and when checking i could see and feel something there and seems that is the skin tag.

this skin tag is causing lot of pain all the sudden and discomfort and i hope it will get better soon.

Hi kaz2000 I also had my hal rar in Australia 3 weeks ago. Do you still have prolapse? I had bad constipation day 1 of the surgery and strained when I went to the bathroom. took 4 days for the laxatives to work. I still had prolapse back even day 1 post op. Im worried I tore the stitch while straining. Can I ask you still have prolapse? I thought after the surgery the hems are stitched in so it shouldnt come out during a bowel movement

      hi @andrew14986

it has been over 2 weeks (day 16) and my surgen is on holidays until jan 10 so bit hard to get a proper answer.

My haemorrhoid (grade 4) was internal and never prolapsed before the HAL RAR.

after week 1 one prolapsed after a BM and it been a painful few days. And yes its still prolapsed but feel like the swelling is getting better but very slowly 😭

i went to see my GP few days ago and he said its all part of the healing and sometimes it could prolapse but it will shrink ...

oh thats interesting. I thought grade 3 and 4 hemmorhoids are defined by prolapse. Mine is grade 2 and 3 and prolapses after a bowel movement and goes back in slowly on its own. I thought its not meant to prolapse anymore post op since they stitch it in 😦

so you are saying before hal rar when you went to bathroom none of your insides come out when you push?

      Hello Kaz2000,

I hope you are feeling well, I had my anal tag removed 10 days ago. 30 min procedure, Pain is gone on day 7 and now only a little bit when I'm doing number 2 also the stitches are very uncomfortable, the surgeon said it will be dissolved in 3 weeks. Hopefully all is well. Hope you recovered well.

hi, i had a hemorrhoidectomy in November , im 2 months post op and have a lump/tag. it really depresses me seeing it because i had 2 external hems/ and 2 internal hems before my surgery. recovery was hell im feeling better now, but occasionally have pain after and during a bm .

i want this lump gone. i dont even want to be i timate because of this lump, my fave position was doggy style and with this lump/tag im so self aware. it seems I will have to get skin tag removal . i see my surgeon again on the 17 th of jan. i will see what options i have . I just dont want a big lump back there anymore ☹️

i had banding in jan 2022 for 3 grade 3 internal hems.

had some improvement up until june 2022 with rare bleeding with bm but it's started creep back over past few months to bleeding at least once a week.

how long after banding did you realise it had not worked?

also i had 2 skin tags previous yo banding and i think ice had another appear after banding.

    did this happen to you?

so tags can bleed can they?

the dr said they wouldn't be but i've always wondered if the bleeding sometimes is from a tag?

did anyone's skin tags go away after surgery on their own? I am three weeks out and skin tags have shrunk a bit but I wonder if they will be completely gone on their own or if I need another surgery? can anyone tell me how long it took for the swelling to go completely down? And is the removal of skin tags as painful as a hemorrhoid ectomy???? Is it worth it?
