    Hi

I broke my right ankle on the 20th may and had an op on the 21st

I had a metal plate and screws put in but in a partial cast nwb.

I am getting lots of weird pains and tingling all the time

For the last 2 days feel like my leg is on fire and want to rip this thing of as very hot lol

From reading comments on here from people who are much further down the line it seems to be normal

Hi, I have good news and bad news for you.  I broke my ankle, Tibia and Fibula on Feb 28th and had surgery on March 3rd, a plate and 2 screws.  The first 10 days were virtually pain free.  Then I got the worst pain behind my heel and to the outside.  It felt like a knife was cutting into the back of my ankle.  They gave me a new hard cast but the pain was still there.  Then we tried the boot, then I got a sugartong cast which is open on the sides as we tried to avoid having anything press on the side of my heel.  That didn't work and the pain just got worse.  Like hot nails coming out of the back of the ankle.  I couldn't have anything touch my foot.  Finally we had to just take the boot off and I went without any protection from about week 4 to week 8.  I then started physical therapy as the doctore wanted to have me loosen the ankly and maybe the pain would go away.  I also had a full battery of nerve testing and they think I might have an impinged nerve.  The good news is I just completed week 13 and the pain has been going away a little each week.  No more hot pain, just feels like stuff is back there as my foot swells in the evening.  Uncomfortable but so much better.  I'm beginning to walk without a cane and strengthening my foot.  I'm now very optimistic but it was hell for abut a month.

Welcome to the Broken Ankles Club! I had to wait 10 days before I had surgery. By next Tuesday I'll have been in a NWB cast for 6 weeks. Since I live on the 2nd floor w/o an elevator I've been stuck up here away from family and friends. As one person advised me, days will turn into weeks, so use patience as your friend. At least you broke your ankle doing something you love, mine broke due to a stupid accident that happened in my own house. But I've been told by others that after the first week in a walking boot it will get much better and I'll gain much more mobility. So good luck and keep posting!
