Ankle seems worse now that I'm using it more

Hi haven't posted in a bit, hope everyone is getting better. About 2weeks ago my surgeon told me to ditch the boot and the crutches, well still can't walk without nothing and the pain seems worse than ever. I understand it will be bad pain, I'm bearing weight on it, walking down the stairs holding railings of corse, even standing in shower, but it is so stiff still, and I'm doing exercises, can the humidity make it worse? And would I know if I had an infection...just seems to swell more, and today is the first time I have taken advil in about 2months...Oh should say I broke the tib fib and have nail and 5screws happened 5/22/16 sorry for ramblings on. Just worried...as usual.

First day i was allowed to weight bear I fell off our walkway ( about a 2' drop). Stupid me had been wearing a down bootie to keep the foot warm. Of course they have no decent support and it curled under me. I fell forward onto the front of the foot and the crutches stopped any sideways movement.. Didn't hurt much so I thought it was ok but now the tibia ( held on my a screw) no longer lines up.I'm worried I might need another op or the pieces will cause issues with movement/ arthritis etc.
Going back to the specialist in 2 weeks to see what he thinks.

Will hurt and swell more once trying to use it. Long process but do the exercises. Put the foot up with ice etc .I'm probably 1 month after crutch removal.
I took it easy and did 50% weight bear then 25% then slowly got rid of them. I still get pain in my forefoot as I walk but getting around. Chiro says i'm still not ready to walk down stairs- need more work to get foot ready.
My recovery has been hampered by side issues from anti imflammatory bleed.

Hi Tracy
I broke my fib and dislocated the right side on the 4-6 -16 and I'm still having pain , I did not have surgery my ankle was forced back in place and I say forced the pain was horrendous then I was put in a back slab for ten days , that was removed and a cast was put on for the remaining 6 weeks . Cast was removed no Xray told to get a good pair of trainers and walk which I could not do for 3 weeks for the pain . I'm now 5 weeks without cast and I'm still in pain and my foot ankle leg is twice the size and to top it all off I've got a fungal infection of the skin where the cast has been could scratch it off I feel like it's raw flesh rubbing in my ankle but know one seems to care , I don't know if these doctors have ever broke a ankle but when they say walk ? Haha
Sorry for the rant on but I'm wondering if I will ever get back to some sort of normal

Denise,
I am curious - where do you live? Care is so different depending on the Doctor. I fell and have a Bimalleolar fx - an ortho doc set it as best he could in the ED- gave me a lot of pain med and a big shot of lidocaine and I felt no pain - the next few days waiting for surgery were very painful... Surgery 3 days later with plate and screws and now in cast for 3 more weeks - a total of 6. They will then X-ray it and put me in a boot for another 6 weeks with partial wt bearing- increase slowly until full wt bearing. The fungal infection sounds awful. Did they not give you guidance , exercises or a referral to PT? You may want to request an X-ray and some physical therapy😉 I sure hope you feel better soon and this time by next year- you may be running a marathon👟👊🏻

Hi Jan I live in Northumberland Blyth
I been to see OT twice but he does not want to see me for 3 weeks as he seems to think I'm doing fine , I've been given a steroid cream been using it a week it stings when I apply it but it's not doing any good infection is spreading up my leg , I've just done 45 minutes work in my house and my leg foot is like a trunk and aching like toothache , I was a total 6 weeks then told to walk no air boot then told to ditch the crutches I'm nearly 60 and old bones may take longer to heal but there seems no help to turn to

I've been to see the pharmacist today he was very helpful told me what pain killers to take and has given me two different types of creams to put on 3 times daily , which I have done a few hours ago and the itch has settled down a lot , things seem to be looking up
