Anterior Repair with Transobturator Vaginal Sling

Posted , 13 users are following.

I went to my pre op appointment this morning, my surgery is next Thursday for an anterior repair amd transobturator sling and possible posterior repair. My gyn said I am staying one night in the hospital for observation and that I will be able to resume work and driving the next day and to limit picking anything heavier then 40 pounds and not to strain.

I have been reading a lot of posts that dont make the recovery sound as pleasant as my dr is amd u just want to be prepared for what's coming? Any advice?

Hi angell I don't think there is any way u will resume work/ driving the next day. I am 4 weeks post op and still unable to drive. I was advised 6 weeks and I think matron will agree with me on this. If u read the posts on this site I think u will soon understand how important it is to rest. Good luck with ur op, I hope all goes well for u. X

Angell, is that right - 40lbs?  It sounds like a lot?  I was told WAY less than that.  I wouldn't even lift a full kettle.  It also sounds quick, driving and going to work the next day?  I'm a bit puzzled?  Rest is normally stressed after an operation like this and not to strain anything.

angell there are some Urogynaecologists undertaking this type of surgery under a local anaesthetic however it doesn't include the repair. The recovery is shorter but not that short!! Would your consultant be undertaking that research?

There is absolutely impossible to have this surgery, drive the following day and lift something heavy. You're obviously not having the surgery you claim to be having.

This is absolutely the surgery I am having. I copied the wording right off the hospital admission form. The posterior repair isn't 100% confirmed that I need until I am under anthesia bUT my grandmother was with me both visits and heart the exact same thing. I'm so confused as to why my dr would tell me this.

I wonder why as well. I don't think I would be happy him operating on me because he can't be doing the surgery you're expecting. Did he give you any written information about the post operative care?

There is absolutely no way you will be able to do any of that straight after what is major surgery. You will need to rest as much as you possibly can for the first few weeks and to be honest I doubt you'll even have the energy to do any of that stuff anyway. I had a rectocele repair end of last year and took me ages to get anywhere near back to normal. Good luck with your op and healing x

Thanks for your comments bUT now I'm getting nervous about my Dr's comments. This practice delivered my babies and they are good. I just don't get it.

I didn't get post op care. I will get that in the hospital.

When you say the practice are you talking about your GP practice?

So you're talking about the GP practice. A GP wouldn't do this surgery. You need to see a Urogynaecologist at a hospital.
