Anxiety

I have suffered from labrynthitis since March.  My ears still feel plugged but hearing is normal.  Terrible anxiety attacks seem to be the only thing that is not getting better.  Has anyone else suffered from anxiety as a result of labrynthitis?  Antidepressants have not helped.

Thanks for any help.

    Terry Anne,

I have had lab or VN sine May. I have been doing VRT and am seeing improvemnt but sometimes I get frustated. I had severe anxiety from end of June to middle of August. My doctor put me on Lorezapam until the lexapro kicked in. The aniety was horrible. I think during this time a famous American actor Robin Williams kiled himself. People just do not understand what we are going though, with anxiety and or depression. The Lexapro helped me. I have been on prozac for years prior to VN, but have had not had anxiety that bad. If you can get Leaxpro or some medicine from your doctor it will help. Sorry you are going throught this. Has your lab or VN got any better. Take care.

    Terry Anne,

Sorry I did not see the last line. Have you tired several anti depresseants? Or do they just dont work at all?

YES! Terrible anxiety since all of this started. I take Citalopram 40mg daily for it and it has really helped me. I couldn't function due to the anxiety originally. I still get anxious when my dizzies are bad but not very often. It's the worst part of this for me xxx

    Sue82580    Hi Terry Anne,

I have recently had labyringthitis and I found the anxiety was due to the overwhelm of not being able to cope with normal things and ending up in tears over `nothing`.

When I spoke with my doctor about this she said it was because my brain was trying so hard to deal with being upright that anything else that required my brain to function becomes overwhelming.

I visited a chiropractor who did a manoeuvre on my ears and my lower skull and within 24 hours the vertigo symptons had completely disappeared.

Am just left with the weakness and yucky feeling that you get after being poorly for a sustained length of time, but all in all 80% much better.  Would highly recommend seeing a chiropractor and explaining your symptons.  I would suggest you get someone to take you (you probably can`t drive at the moment anyway) because the chiropractor needed to do a test on me which required me to do movements that brought the vertigo symptons on more.  This was just to assess me.

    Good Luck.

Hi Terry Anne.  Yes I had labyrinthitis in Oct 2012.  I had anxiety too.  What I have found really works for me is meditation.  I was skeptical too at first but it helps by lowering stress and anxiety.

There are free guided meditations on the web and books you can borrow from the library. So doesn't have to cost you anything.

    TerryAnne

I have been exactly the same as yourself for the past 8 months..I was prescribed anti-depressants but all they did was to make things worse..nightmares and really bad dreams, I just used to sit and cry......I have been using the Otovent balloon and am now down to once a day from 4 times a day and am feeling much better. The pressure in my ears has almost gone and the crying episodes have gone too...Hope this helps...

Thanks for all the suggestions.  The antidepressants have not helped but I do have Lorazapam, tho not sure it helps either.  I like the idea of meditation and the otovent balloon.  I think I'll try it next.  Thanks again, it really helps to know I'm not the "only" one going thru this.

    Hi TerryAnne

I know this is going to sound really strange but try it anyway because it has done wonders for my husband. A very hot water bottle on your stomach.

It´s the only thing that seems to work for him. The antidepressants haven´t helped him either.

      Hi Isabel

That's really interesting,  I never would have thought of that.

I'll give it a try, can't hurt.  Thanks.
