    Hi Dorothy,

I take Diazepam which I believe is an equivalent to Xanax ? (Valium) is it’s other name.  I take it very occasionally when I have an appointment to go to.  I actually hate that I need to take it but that’s where I am.  It makes  me feel completely calm and able to relax.  I think it works amazingly and sometimes wish I could take it more often.  It’s such a shame that there isn’t anything similar that isn’t potentially addictive that works as well as it.  Hope that’s helpful ! Hi Maud,

I hear you ! The struggle is real isn’t it ? If I thought my doctor would prescribe it me more often I would take it ! Are you in the U.K. ? I am and they seem very reluctant to let you have it . . . Deb x

Hi Dorothy! Zanax should not be taken long term. It is addictive and can be dangerous used long term and mixed with other drugs and alcohol.  Doctors recommend certain antidepressants that work well for anxiety. My daughter and husband are both on antidepressants for anxiety.  They feel much better. Hope this info helps you out. Take care!

You are so right Maria! It is hard to get off it because it makes your body addicted to it . Your anxiety gets worse when you stop therefore you find yourself grabbing it again and i didnt want that. I stopped even after taking it for a short period the withdrawal was worse than the anxiety. I just been using lots of herbal and supplements.

Xanax is very addictive because of its short life. It only stays in the body four to six hours. My doctor gave me Valium because is stays in the body longer(longer half life) and you don't have to take it as often(at least I don't). I take it about once or twice a week. Some doctors even use Valium to wean people off Xanax, Klonopin(that stuff is awful), Ativan and other highly addictive benzos that have short half life in the body. Until they can wean them off altogether. My therapist told me combing the best meds for anyone is an art, not a science.
