Anxiety after coming off Citolapram

Hi, anyone help, I have been off Cita for about 3 months (after cutting down slowly), over the last week my anxiety has gone through the roof and slight depression (which I have never had before) , I really do not want to go back on Cita as I fought so hard to come off them, anyone had the same experiences, and has anyone found anything else helpful as an alternative to prescription drugs? Thanks

    Hi Dawn

I also left a post under yours on another thread.  Try 5-HTP and l-tyrosine together, both bought over the counter.  5- HTP boosts serotonin and l-tyrosine boosts neurotransmitters.  They have very good reports.

Also get a book called 5-HTP The Natural Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity by Michael T Murray ........ it's a really interesting read.

Though it says overcoming depression, anxiety is usually present too, and once your serotonin is boosted it'll alleviate both.

Search on Google for these for a read too.

    Hope it helps.

Kate question for you, should it be 5-HTP 100mg and the L-tyrosine 500mg that we take after we are finished with the cit? Thanks, Cindy

Yes the bottle of 5-HTP I have is 50mg to be taken twice a day, so that's 100mg and l-tyrosine is a 500mg bottle to be taken once a day.  I think the book states that higher doses are given, but you should obviously follow only what it says on the bottle.  Exceeding the doses can be really harmful.

      Hiya Dawn,

Do you have to leave your dogs during the day too, it horrible,

but I never used to feel like this, i used to be pretty chilled out,ive also lost confidence in going out socialising, i prefer to stay in these days,

Ohhhhh....been there!  I came off them after 6 years, slowly over 3 months, everything was going well, then bang...it all fell apart.

My anxiety returned worse thank ever, I was convinced I had every illness under the sun, it was hell.

That was about 5 months ago, I'm back on them but my anxiety still hasn't been as settled as before, I disappointed that I couldn't come off them, but  Im also sad that I even tried as my massive issues concerning health have all returned and Im scared I'll never feel the way I did before trying to come off them....

Yes Rachel, i have 2 soon to become 3, ye horrible leaving them alone during the day, to be fair they are my saviour at the moment, and bless they know something is wrong sad I really hope I can stop off the Cita, I am travelling to France in 2 weeks time to pick up a pup (i am driving over) , and I am sure this is what has made things worst, I am going to the docs this afternoon to see if he can recommend anything more natural, CBT, accupunture etc, if I do go back on Cita i cant do that until after france cause of the side effects, and I am thinking how the hell I am going to get through the next 2 weeks, and look happy and in control at work x

When you guys went back on them, did you have the same initial side effects shilst they settled in?

Aw feel for you Dawn, my dog is my saviour, she too knows when I am down,

Hate leaving her, yes id like to try something more natural because I dont think citalopram is good in the long term.

Hope you have a nice time in France, Im trying so hard to stay strong

just got constant anxiety in my chest all the time xxx
