Hello everyone!
I am now a couple a years on Zoloft, and it worked for me tremendously!
Most of my life I experienced from anxiety but it became worse when I went to college. It became even severe. I developed also social anxiety, general anxiety, and panic attacks. My body was always on alert and I couldn't sleep. I also did not have control over my body anymore, I even got spasms in my neck which made me even more self-conscious and even more anxious. I also couldn't read because my eyes couldn't focus anymore. This resulted that I had no motivation to even study, to go to classes or to do anything! My school results would also get also influenced by it. I just would avoid to go to school and sit at home playing video games.
I could not live with it. Then i decided that enough was enough! I went to a psychiatrist which prescribed me Zoloft. I started from 25 mg to now 100 mg which is my current dose.
It worked! It worked so good! I was confident again i could finally see the world and kick it in the balls.
However there was some side effects:
Hair loss and weight gain but i could live with it!
There was also a period however when i relapsed which was thanks to consumption of protein (chicken and whey protein) when i wanted to build some muscle. This was because protein rich foods contain already a dosage of serotonin which Zoloft already provides. This phenomenon is called Seroronine Syndrome. I saw that a lot of people on the internet experienced this same problem. I decided to just eat normally and not eat a lot of protein any more which was annoying but it made me better.
There also a relapse when I got Zoloft from a different manufacturer which would have the same effects but not for me, so I kept to the same manufacturer and I am fine again.
Now I want to stop with it, it don't want to be dependent on it anymore, I want to live my own life but i have a feeling I'm going to be dependent for it for the rest of my life.
How can i get rid of it? What are you experiences with it? Just lower the dosage to 50 mg? Talk maybe with a psychologist and talk about underlying problems? Yes I am going to contact a doctor about it but I am stuck here in another country thanks to Covid19. Thank you all!

hi uzumak, i apologise if i have spelt your name wrong! i think you are doing the right thing by coming off this medicine, that is strong, well done you! i think you need to ( and correct me if i'm wrong) speak to someone before you start reducing the medicine. you need to do it slowly otherwise you may get withdrawal symptoms. a doctor will speak to you down the phone which beats not at all i suppose. when i was ill last week i contacted and spoke to a nurse, it beat nothing! explain what you want to do, you'll be put on a doctor's phone call list and then you'll be able to speak to someone. good luck, you deserve this for you.

Hi Uzumaki, I totally understand not wanting to be reliant on a medication and I would NEVER try to convince someone to decide either way but, you are asking for help....I will tell you what I would do or tell someone I care about(from life & personal experience): Right now, if you are stable & not having side effects, that's a great start(if you ARE having side effects, that needs to be addressed as soon as possible)...next consider your timing....if due to circumstances of the COVID19 restrictions, you are under stress & anxiety, not in your own home, away from your regular lifestyle, have no way to get out & be active or have regular counselling/medical interaction, it may be best to wait a while....starting with counselling or CBT(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), journaling, talk therapy and etc... to address any underlying stressors, would be a great start & you can learn coping mechanisms for stress/anxiety/relaxation/sleep....so when you start cutting back(with your Drs help) there won't be anything else but, tapering to deal with....eat well, get rest, stay hydrated, try to get some exercise, do natural things to boost your mood NOW, so you can continue with a good routine when you are tapering & for after, THIS WAY you are DOING something toward your goal of drug-free life, instead of feeling like you're stuck until a certain time in the future, it could actually REALLY HELP!!!....Taking an anti-depressant for 2 yrs you should work out a plan to taper with the least amount of side effects....it isn't something you should try to rush, the more gradual, without side effects, the better your chance of being successful in getting off and staying off....SO tell your Dr your plan and ask for help preparing & see what they suggest, they should be willing to help in ANY WAY, if NOT, find another DR, that will!! I hope you have great success in your goals, taking charge of your life can be a really good thing & help you feel more in control, which can have a long lasting effect on anxiety & depression overall...chat me up ANYTIME, there's a lot of great help here, too....BEST WISHES💒🎶🐾🌈🍀☮♾
