I am 23 and I've been suffering from anxiety for a little over a year now. I recently have been going through so much stress fining out that a family member had a heart attack and I feel like it's going to be me next. My chest is constantly tight. It's not painful but it scares me. I take the prescription ativan but I'm not sure if I should take this everyday or not. My doctor says it's okay I just worry because I don't want yo have to take it forever. Please help.

Do you have family members that you can discuss your fears with?
They know you and will understand you better than us stangers can. Grandmothers are usually a good source of knowledge and comfort in times of distress.
Start walking, cycling or do some sport to prove to yourself that you are well.

Anxiety has it's way into interferring within people's lives, causing them to change their lifestyle completely - because of fear.
Ok, you fear you are next on the family list of having a heart attack. What have you done about this fear? You admit you have the fear, so have you gone to a doctor for a complete physical? If not, I would do so ASAP. Getting a thorough physical, with all the necessary heart machines, will rule out the possibility if you have inherited a heart disorder.
Don't you believe this should help you with the anxiety problem? And, taking Ativan, I would suggest you have a lot of headaches, right? Ativan can cause even upwards of migraine like headaches, many a week. I should know, because that was one of my symptoms in taking the medicine.
When I weened myself off Ativan, most of my headaches went away. I confronted my anxieties with changing my lifestyle. Reduced the stress which helped immensely.
Believe you can take 4 to 6 mgs of Ativan per day, but doing so will and should put your behind in bed all day. Been there, done that.
Learn what anxiety is, how to manage it without medicine, rearrange your life as I did, and take the world on, squarely upon your shoulders. Go with the flow of life, reduce all stresses within your life, and figure out how to do that which is best for you.
Life is a bitch, so learn how to control the bitch within your life.
Routing for you!

Our NHS is a bitch unless it is obvious that you are ill and then it can be good.
