Any advice on fluoxetine and propanol

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've been givin fluoxetine for my anxiety today and also propanol to take for the side effects that come with taking fluoxetine, I must admit I'm scared to take them as all the reviews say u get worse and lots of other side effects is it really worth taking them when I already feel so low? Don't think my partner could cope with me bein any lower itha

Hi Debbie I've just started flu

This is day 6 for me and so far

Things have been ok side effect wise

I've had some nausea & a little tiredness

I've woke up early also so I take it insomnia

    Is another effect

I like you was wary as the last med debbilatated me and I stopped meds roughly for 3 months due to this

If you've been given propanol to counter

These effects I would imagine you may only

Get a few symptoms and or not so severe

You may not get any as everyone is different

This is a gd site where people understand

    It's supportive and really helpful

Let me know how you get on

My sleep is disturbed and unpredictable... this is not a massive, massive thing but its like the thing is contradictory... I am lethargic but restless, tired but cant sleep properly...i feel that all of these will need to balance at some point to get me on the right path.

What is the Propanol designed to do?

      Thanks

      Hey richo

I can usually get to sleep no bother

But I find myself waking after roughly 5 hrs and can't get back to sleep

I'm already thinking of the day ahead

And worrying because I'm not getting enough sleep it's as if the day Is doomed and im not even out of bed

Is there a natural remedy that I could take , would that not interact

Maybe it's best not to depend on another supplement etc

Do you think this is the flu

      Levelling itself out ?

      Cheers daz

You can take kalms that wont interact. Or I resorted to sleep aid at times just for a night or two to reset the sleep pattern, didnt have any adverse afftect (contains an anti histamine that help relax muscles like night nurse). I still woke up about 4am but did get back to sleep. Only took one rather than two as two wiped me out next day . Ask chemist theyll tell you what could help. :-) also try 4-7-8 breathing to get you back to sleep.

    Hi Debbie

Firstly I want to say well done for seeking help. What dosage has the doctor given you? I know this sounds harsh but I have learnt over the years that you need to focus on yourself and not how others feel. You will get better on the fluoxetine but it does take time. I have gone back on fluoxetine 6 weeks ago but a higher dosage and it can make you feel down and very tired. I have been off work for 5 weeks but everyone is different. Just remember it is an illness to which you need medication for to get better. Maybe try to explain to your partner that you might get worse before you get better. I use the term you wouldn't stop giving people with diabetes their insulin to make them better so try to feel the same. If you want my email to talk to let me know.

    Good luck

    Hi debbie

Sorry to hear you are suffering but im glad you've got help. Not heard of a doctor giving propanalol in advance before but maybe its the way! I was given propanalol around 6wks but my anxiety/depression had caused months of constant nausea already so it wasnt that but I did develop the shakes (again prob anxiety /rapid qeight loss but who knows). The prop did help a bit with that but I only took it when I needed it. Its been a long haul for me but at 16wks ish I now feel pretty much like myself again so its all worth it.

If you read the reviews on here its mostly people who have struggled and need help n advice. Remember theres as many people not on here that have had flu with no side effects and great results but they dont need help from a forum. I needed it and its been a godsend for me but my friend is on 9 wks of a different ssri and has breezed through wirh no side effects except an odd sleepless night and she felt better really quickly.

So dont expect the worst but if you do get side effects n get worse before you get better this forum offers a great insight into other peoples experiences, a place to talk and support and advice from lots of lovely people. It will pass, you will get better but dont expect a quick fix as that can cause frustration but you may fly through it n feel better in no time - thatd be a bonus :-). I hope thats how it is for you.

Wishing you all the best for your recovery, hope its quick n trouble free. If not we're here to offer support if you need it.

Take care n be kind to yourself

Thanks for your reply vix ur totaly right most people will be commenting about there bad experience on here n looking for advice,

I'm actually goin for hypnosis starts on Monday so I'm thinking I shouldn't take anything until I finish my course of hypnosis, I got prescribed propanol years ago when I suffered bad anxiety but didn't take them as I was doin a CBT course then aswel I'm really for bein all natural when it comes to things like this my hormones are all over the place as it is n like the idea of my body just doin it's own thing!

Most reviews on here have totally freaked me out saying things like you get a lot worse b4 better don't think I could handle getting any worse,

      Thanks vix x

      Debbie

I am on week 4 - almost week 5. I am waiting for something to happen other than feeling a little spaced and losing some sleep.

It has not been a bad ride for me so far at all and i am only on this forum "just in case" and for a little comfort in the fact that im not alone.

I cannot wait until i get back to being me again, i know that the "me" i have lost recently is an absolutely brilliant person. I think at the moment i am mourning him. I have 3 daughters i need to be strong for as they will need me to be me.... Everyone i have spoken to has agreed this is the right path for me at this time. Who knows what life will throw at me next - I just need to be ready for it when it comes.

Good luck with the Hypno - keep us posted - maybe it will be right for others too!

Everything is worth a try. I had acupuncture for my nausea (had prev for back pain and problem periods both of which it really helped). Maybe coincidence or timing but two days later my nausea had stopped. Tried hypno but just made me sleepy dont think did much else for me.

Exercise is the best thing to help best in fresh air too (n I hate exercise!) , I started walking to local supermarket or 20 mins round nature park. It does make a difference.

Good luck let us know how hypno goes.

Ps people on different forum have recommended a book called depression the cure (cant remember who by) but maybe worth looking up for a more natural solution.
