    Hi

I was diagnosed hyperthyroid early last year, I had rapid pulse, severe sweats, my blood pressure went from my normal very low level to very high. I did however lose over 15kgs and could not eat, I had pain in a band under my ribs, insomnia, racing mind and was in tears all the time. I was put on carbimazole and within a few months my levels returned to within normal limits. One thing I have learned in the last 12 months is that no one seems to have exactly the same symptoms. But most get the racing heart and generally feel awful. It would probably help if you asked your doctor to find out what is causing your thyroid issues because there are a few causes. I'm sure there are people here that can help you more than I can as I never did find out what caused mine, I am still being monitored and am due for more bloods soon. I always keep a copy of my results so I know what my levels are if anyone asks, and they will. I have seen posts here where people have both hyper and hypo symptoms at the same time, it may just be how your system reacts. My levels were not that high but my body reacted as if they were, it was just how my body reacted. I am sure someone else will be able to give you more helpful info, I just thought I would let you know you are not alone with this disease and suggest you try to learn as much as you can starting with what your levels are. Before I lost all the weight I was slowly gaining weight (I have been slim all my life) no matter what I did my weight was creeping up, I put it down to menopause but in hind sight it could have been my thyroid. Good luck and take care

Sorry, I don't know about the medicine, I am on carbimazole. But I wanted to say that I gained almost 3 stone very quickly before being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. When they said overactive thyroid I thought it must be wrong because surely then I should be thin and feel nervy instead of being fat and exhausted! My Dr says it is not unusual though. Apparently the overactive thyroid can increase appetite so we put on weight. Since going on carbimazole in November I have lost 20 pounds without even trying. I have not had stomach pains but pains in legs and lots of shaking.
