Hi Deedee - I feel your pain, I started gaining weight in my late forties, I am now 61 & haven’t found the answer.  However, I recently spent $ & went to a nutritionist & she said something I had never heard...I should be striving to  eat lean protein @ every meal with veggies.  Eat only full fat items instead of low fat because eating low fat or non fat means they have “processed” it.  You obviously have to watch & balance everything, but all food should be low in sugar, starch, & “bad” carbs.  Diet should consist of only fish & chicken & no red meat.  All produce should be organic & protein source antibiotic free - eggs ok - & limit dairy - Have I lost any weight?? No! But I can say my digestion has improved a bit & the protein thing at every meal does help my energy a bit -

Yep my tummy is not looking good..  I think I did a lot of sitting and driving the last few months.  But I have dabbled a bit with eating protein and veggies mostly, and a lot of fats (avocado, nuts, milk, butter).   Believe it or not my weight did go down some.  If I could only plan and stick with it, I would be good to go!  I think food is 80% of it and exercise is 20.

I heard that also 80percent is what we put in our bodies! We just have to stick with it long term. Funny some women I know have flat stomachs and can still wear bikinis in their 50's but they have also gotten tummy tucks so not really fair compassion there LOL!!!

Oh & the big takeaway which I forgot to mention...(is I know I am guilty of this) is because of our stressed out lives we eat on the run, at our work desks, in our cars etc.  we need to think about “mindful” eating.  We should only eat in calm areas like at our dining room table, nature etc. Our bodies/digestion’s are now @ middle age seeing the effects from all this “stressed out” eating (Too many years spent being Super Mom).  In addition, when you grab for food ask yourself “Am I hungry?” Or am I filling an emotional void or am I angry about something etc. I think menopause is really a time to take stock of what has worked in our lives & what has not.  I know for me, I am an emotional eater and somehow a baguette and a triangle of Brie Just made life easier to cope with & my middle section has paid the price 😱

Great info Debra16694! Thank you and I am taking the Im I Hungry to heart! Thats the big question! Im adding avocado in my diet and have cut out all the processed things. But consistency I hear is also a big player, doing this for life not just a few weeks or months! Thank you!!

Yes...  I'm guilty of that!!   Eating right when I'm hungry and NOT paying attention or thinking before I eat.  The emotional eating gets me and I'm learning to listen to what I need.  Sometimes I can get away with drinking water/tea and a piece of cheese/nuts.  But then other times I need the sugar and carbs (pop and hamburger)  which is OK just can't do it often.  Yes, consistency is key-- I don't call it a diet anymore it's a lifetime commitment.
