Hi,

I have been diagnosed with fatty liver (non alcoholic) and IBS. I have started a diet plenty of fresh fruit low fat spread chicken etc.

However I have been suffering discomfort about 4 inches above my belly button that feels deep inside my abdomen and terrible bloating and flatuance that smells terrible..

1 day I feel great, next day, bloated, sluggish and the discomfort mentioned above.I have always had the discomfort above my abdomen for 20 years plus.

Anyone any idea whats going on, or suffer like me?

Thanks

Hi mark are you overweight? I'm sure that if you have had this for so long you can rule out anything nasty I'm sure. Have you had a full stool culture test or ct

Certain fruit and veg have complex fibres. Ibs and complex fibres don't mix. The more they build up the more they ferment. Things like peach skins are really bad. You need to find out how much complex fibres are in each fruit n veg you eat.

I agree with Susan. My advice, cut out all fruit for a week and see if the pains subside. Then start introducing individual types of fruit to see if you get reactions a day later.

Also, stay away from artificial sweeteners for a little while. Anything that ends in an 'ol or an 'ose can exacerbate IBS symptoms.

      Good luck! Xxx

      Good

Thanks all. My main fruits I have been eating is oranges, banana's, plums and apples.

It's quite puzzling because one day I can feel great and the day after I feel terrible and low, even if I eat the exact same things. Yesterday I had porride oats with almond milk no sugar. Fruit for afternoon snack. Wholemeal bread with chicken for dinner and q yogurt. I felt great but bloated. Today I had exactly the same and suffered pain all day long.

I've had blood test, Ultrasound scans, stool test. All done in October 2015.

    Thanks

The best advice someone told me was to eat sweetcorn and then see how long it takes to come out. It's usually between 12-24 hours.

If you experience the pain and discomfort the next day, chances are it's what you ate the previous day.

I've been following LOW FODMAP to help stop my symptoms. Categorically no apples or prunes allowed.

In fact, my work arranged a special three course Meal for me as part of our Christmas party. I actually remarked that it was the first time I can remember where I'd eaten on a night out and not felt bloated and wanting to end the night after the meal. To be fair, I danced for hours after, had a few jaigermeisters before I had to go home with bad acid reflux....definitely the jaigerbombs!

My point being is that your symptoms definitely sound like they start by whatever it is you're eating; bloating soon after eating something and then pains the next day.

You might want to consider doing the low FODMAP eating as well xxx

Another way to test food transit tie is eat beetroot. I really would say your issues are down to a core problem so go back and ask for another full stool and full blood count. I know you said you had a scan but I'm guessing this was was a ultra sound for liver!

Ask for the ct. you will be given a contrast dye and its 10 mins for the scan. Remember there are loads of people with fatty liver and it's the biggest organ apart from your skin and can repair itself over time. The ct will show all the organs and their are ways to combat many things with drugs

Thank you. I will look at the fodmap diet and also try the sweet corn. I am over weight and trying to loose a few pounds but I end up weighing more due to the bloating. I'm an adult male and can easily look like I am pregnant.

The same thing happens to me, Mark! The bloating is horrible. Try it and let us know how you get on. It is tough but then, it's tough having to put up with the IBS symptoms day in day out xxx

...the low FODMAP thing is tough, I mean. I read that back and it looked like I was saying " tough luck!?!?!" 😨 xxx

Never been tested for Celiac's disease. I am going to have a look at the fodmap diet though.

An example of what it's like is. I was lying in bed this morning and felt great, as soon as I started to move around the discomfort and bloating starts, when I was showered and dressed my stomach was hard bloated with slight discomfort and this was before I had eaten anything. After eating porridge for breakfast I felt OK. Then I've set off for work and the bloating is increasing. The more I do the more I bloat and the worse the discomfort gets.

I will be like this all day again. It is a real nuisance.
