Anyone else experiencing this???

Hello guys,

I've been diagnosed with GERD a couple of years ago, and I'm presently on Apo-Lanzoprazole. Lately I've noticed that I often feel like there is phlegm stuck at the back of my throat and I'm constantly swallowing saliva, clearing my throat, or coughing to get it dislodged. I also notice that in the morning when I'm brushing my teeth, I'll have serious coughing fits and gagging. Have any of you dealt with something similar?

    Hi Jay

    I get the phlegm, too.

I hadn’t realised it was associated with GERD until someone else on here mentioned it.

I’ve not suffered the coughing and gagging... yet.

      Hi Deb,

GERD seems to have a plethora of symptoms. laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms are also very similar to GERD.

Why not tell your GP about it?

I find my family doctor to be quite dismissive of things. Unless I push him he tends to drag his feet about doing tests or referring me to a specialist. For years I've been complaining about heartburn and he kept telling me to take over the counter antacids, until finally I was fed up and insisted he refer me to a gastroenterologist. Lo and behold I found at I have GERD and was put on Apo-Lanzoprazole instead. So, I tend to do a lot of research before I go see him, that way I can push for the necessary tests or referrals. I was trying to find out if folks who suffer from GERD have experienced similar symptoms and what worked best for them. At least then, I'll have a idea of what to do next.

And isn't that the whole point of this forum, to discuss, compare and assess symtoms with fellow sufferers who have first-hand experience without running to the Dr every two minutes? Often coming away nonethewiser.

Yes, you're right. But please refer to the doctor for every new symptom. Doctors have knowledge, we only have info.
