It can't hurt and will more than likely help. Worst case scenario you'll feel the same so I think yes, you should give counseling a shot. Also you if you have someone to open up to, that might help too, it doesn't always have to be a trained professional.

you definitely won't get sectioned and some people get a great deal of help through counselling depends wether you want to rehash the past events .

It's actually surprisingly difficult to get sectioned. It will only happen if they think you are an 'immediate' risk to yourself or others. The immediate is the important part - having a plan but no timeframe in mind won't get you sectioned.
Counseling could really help. It's not a quick fix as it can take time to build up a strong enough relationship where you feel safe enough to open up but it's worth persevering with.

Hi Andrew. I also have PTSD along with other mental health problems. The past is so hard to let go of, I've been trying for a long time. I see a councillor once a fortnight and find it to be very beneficial. I feel better. But theres so much more to it. I've always been too soft and wear my heart on my sleeve. Councillor is teaching me how to protect myself and it really has made a difference. So I really think whatever your problems no matter how raw, that counselling would be very helpful. I truly hope you get the help you need and feel better soon.

Thank you everyone for all the feed back and comments, you have all been really understanding and helpful, these problems go back 43 years and then again two years ago, I have now decided to get some kind of help and support, I will keep you posted on how I get on, thanks once again

hi andrew, put your food down with your doctors and tell them you want counselling not sectioning. if you get the correct counsellor you shouldn't need counselling anyway
make sure they're trained to deal with ptsd. i have had to admit defeat and have counselling, it will take a while to sort our because i put my foot down and said no medication. i don't want any more pills i'm trying to stop those too

A friend or anyone here can help you as much as anyone else. You just have to be willing to open up and they have to set aside a few hours to go through everything with you. I think it would be very wrong for anyone to get sectioned just for feeling how they feel. 😊
