FIRST please no horror stories.
Second, I'm already a HIPPIE, I've had two THRs, the most recent in Oct 2018, therefore I already know how those go and the pain level and bruising (both went off without a hitch) now I'm a newbie all over again with a TKR. I reaped a wealth of information from this site during my first hip surgery process and was very thankful.
Now I am looking for accurate information on what to expect from a total knee replacement (TKR) and any helpful information for before (7 weeks away from surgery now) and tips / tricks at home. How did the pain during recovery vary between the two surgeries (if both were successful)?
I have heard the recovery time and effort for a knee are harder but I don't know WHAT that means or what to expect.
I have already started my length strengthening exercises.
Thanks
PS I'm posting here because the knee forum is mostly all negative or horror stories - I do not want to read those B4 surgery (I'm sure you can appreciate that).

I have two replacement knees, 13 yrs and 10 yrs. You're doing the right thing with your preop strengthening. I thought the recovery from both my knee replacements was easier than my THR.. Doing the rehab work is the key to success. My knees are great; the best thing I ever did! I wish you best of luck.

Hi - I had both knees replaced on 9/2/11 and it was a breeze compared to my recent 12/26/18 THR. I don't know how much has changed since I had my knees done, but I woke up pain free. Was out of bed the next day and in the hospital for 1 week. Went to in-patient rehab for 2 weeks and was back to work 3 months to the day. My surgeon advised that no matter how much it hurt, to do the in home PT and out patient PT to a point of as much pain as I could tolerate to get a good range of motion. I was on pain meds for a few months, got excellent results and ice for pain as well. Good luck!

One of my client had total knee. Day surgery. He came home on a frame and used lift for stairs. Already had wet room. So home care was ok with his wife around.
His main issue was swelling which I understood was due to not moving around enough. He was a big gentleman and was fairly sore. But was driving within couple of weeks and made full recovery.
Hope yours goes well. X
