Hi
I had prolonged bleeding in September, went to the Dr in October. He said that I am perimenopause and that I did not release an egg, and was in anovulation. Also a small follicle formed on the ovary as the egg did not pop out. I bled for weeks on end. So he gave me a 14 day course of Medroxyprogestrone. Took it and it did slow the period down a lot , but everyday there is a little breakthrough bleeding. It is so annoying. I also had a withdrawal bleed after I finished, and a week later got a period which was not so bad. Just some big clots were annoying.
So he put me on another 14 day course. I am in my 5th day of pills and every single day for an hour or so I get a breakthough bleed with small stringy like clots. I am wrong, or is this med supposed to stop the bleeding all together ? He said I may need 3-4 cycles to get to normal
Anyone have exeperience with this drug ? Everything I look up on the net has very vague answers
Thanks

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear what you're going through currently, I completely understand as I am going through something similar myself, beginning in September.
I have been given Norethisterone. Which is a progesterone tablet. I have had to take it every day since early September. If I don't, I bleed so heavily that I literally cannot leave the house. Although my GP says it's bad to be on the tablet for this long, there is nothing else that they can do until my Gyni referral comes through, which I have been waiting for for some weeks now. This tablet does stop the bleeding entirely, however I do have bouts of bleeding every so often, maybe suggest to your GP that you try this.
Unfortunately, my GP has said I have cysts on my ovaries, following an ultrasound scan, but also thinks I have Endometriosis (not once has there been mention of PCOS though). He said something similar about my ovary not releasing an egg due to a follicle. I don't entirely understand it to be honest, just need to wait for my Gyni consultation.
Sorry I cant be of more help, I hope you manage to get sorted soon!

hi there. ive been on progesterone for a week now for a never ending spotting episode that has never happened before. after about 4 days on progesterone it finally stopped. i have 3 more days left. im assuming ill have Some sort of bleeding when I stop taking the progesterone, I’m just thinking that maybe it’s the same as when you stop taking birth control, you just start bleeding
