Appointment not til 13th April

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had my anterior, posterior, perenium repair 3 weeks ago today . Not got a follow up appointment until 13th April so not sure how things are if I'm healing ok. I was told there may be a wiffy smell which there is , sorry to be so graphic, but how would I know if I had an infection or not? It feels really solid just inside the vagina is this normal?

Sorry ladies not things I want to ask but as some of you are more further post op than I am you may be able to tell me what you think.

Thank you

Xx

Thanks Joan it's such a worry wondering if things are right but I don't want to go to the doctors unless I really have to x

I had my op just over 3 weeks ago too. Still feel quite swollen down there and feel like I've still got the cystocele. Dome 15 minutes of walking today and feel so uncomfortable down below.

You shouldn't have a smell down there though so I would make an appointment to see your GP.

My check up with the surgeon isn't until the 5th. I had my op on the 18th Feb.

      Thanks Jolil

I wasn't sure as they said it may become a bit smelly but then I think I'm paranoid . I had my op on 23rd Feb follow up 13th April which seems a long time to wait for a follow up if things aren't healing well xx

Hi as far as I aware if it's a fishy smell it could be an infection I would get it checked out if I was you just to be on the safe side..if it is you may need antibiotics it's very common with this surgery x

Could always phone GP and ask to talk to Doc, thy may ask for specimen just to check and put your mind at rest. Think it is normal to be a bit wiffy especially if bladder a bit weak! Solid feeling is due to all the swelling that will take a good number of weeks to go down. Think they normally pump some kind of antibiotic/antibacterial med's. .. in when on drip, but I might be wrong. Always best to drink lots of water and cranberry juice is also meant to be really good at keeping infections at bay!

    Hope it sorts itself soon!

Hi Rosiepix, think the time frame to see your specialist is actually quite good. They recommend 6-8 weeks post op. I over did things in the first week, felt like super woman obviously because painkillers subdueing any pain but didn't think of that at time. Ended up with some stitches on my panties and knew it was way to soon for them to have come away naturally yet and I was throbbing down there. This is the part that will interest you , I rang my spec consutling rooms and they advised that the best thing I could do was to put my feet up take the weight of the perinuem /bottom area - no sitting etc for a few days. I didn't have any bleeding or awful smell. My spec later called me back and advised that if I had done any damage or the surgery had failed they would have to weight until the wounds etc from this op had healed the best they could and that may be we aren't seen by our specilaists until 6-8 weeks post op. I know Karen not sure of her number and me almost had our ops at the same time ion the same day and chatting with someone who is at same stage aas you , someone who has the same symptoms , the same concerns is a great support- thanks Karen if you are reading this. But agree sometimes knowing what is to come , waht we can expect is reassurung too. Amazingly we were discussing this  just recently how great it would be if the ladies who have had this op were seen at 2 & 4 weeks so we could be reassured that all is as well as can be expected. I too have a solid what I can best describe as a block just inside my vagina at the rear entrance it is quite hard , it protrudes down a little and think this is just swelling ell hope so. My perineum sitch line is also quite bumpy , feels a bit like piles but think that is the tightness of the stitches - hopefully this will all settle down and I hope you can learn to accept that yours will too as nothing we can do til we see spec except worrying and that won't help. Thankfully this site does. I have my appointment on 5th so will def post how it goes and what he says.  Think if you have infection or think you do you could try some home remedies for a day or too , then definately see local GP or talk to your chemist. I had an itch no smell but I felt very lethargic and easily tired , I couldn't focus on anything. I had a high temperature , have you taken yours even with panadol. 38.1. So thought something was brewing so popped a little canestan cream down in perieum area and at front because believed it might be thrush. Found out next day after not passing any pee but stinging burning pain while trying that it was a bladder infection. Hardly surprising wearing pads and all that is happening down there. My chemist suggested Ureze tablets and plenty of water to flush it out. Cranberry juice would help and cranberry high potency tablets from now on and keep my fluids up . Of course he enforced if improvment in 48hrs or blood in urine seek medical help. But the tablets helped and now no stinging etc. Good Luck and healing hugs . PS that info real eye opener the differnce in the time guides on yours and what the hospital told me is huge! Yours much more realistic. So have replaced the one I had on the fridge with your one. Hubby has seen it and cannot believe the difference either? Are you in the UK Rosiepix? Keep smiling.

      Hi Tilley

Thanks for your reply. Yes it does seem a long time to wait to get your follow up appointment but guess that's because they need to leave time to let everything heal and settle down. I'm thinking maybe I should have a bath instead of a shower but have been worrying about that as I heard that it can dissolve the stitches too soon. I've been taking the shower head down to make sure that I am thoroughly cleaning the area but not using soap or anything as I am worried about irritation. Definitely don't need that on top of everything else. It's good to be in touch with other people going through the same thing. I can't wait to get back to a bit of normality , my insurance company said I can drive as soon as the dr says it's ok so going by the chart that will be next week when I'll be 4 weeks post op. Freedom!

Yes I'm in the uk I believe we spoke about you being near Melbourne unless I'm confusing you with someone else? So many conversations it's hard to keep track sometimes lol.

      Best wishes

      Rosie

      Xx
