Appointment with consultant

Hi, Im seeing the consultant gynaecologist for the first time in a couple of weeks. For those of you who have done this, I would like to know what happens - do they just discuss your options, do they need to do an internal examiniation etc...

Hi, it depends really on what information they have. If you have already had ultrasound scan plus transvaginal scan he should already have a lot of info. So far this is all I have had done. He did just feel my abdomen which one of them can be felt easily even by me. Then discussion about proposed treatment and sent me away to read up about the treatments/ options available to me.

    Hope that helps.

I have had an ultrasound but nothing internal but they were able to locate the fibroids and the size - not sure if thats enough information for the consultant to go by though. So you dont have any date set for treatment, you just have to read up on options at the moment?

I to am seeing a consultant in a few weeks, I've already had a pelvic scan (also known as transvaginal scan) which measures the fibroids using a probe that inserted up there wink, it acutally does not hurt at all, just a strange sensation. So then options of surgery or what to do will be discussed with the consultant. If you have not had scan, you may it before you see the consultant, as with out it , they will not know size or position of fibroids.

Hi, I agree with Jeanette as i had had Ultrasounds and TVU and CT scans and when i last saw my consultant he felt the fibroids from the outside as too can i. If you havn't had any scans he will referr you then see you back to discuss options.

No he prescribed Esmya for 3 months to shrink them hopefully. I next see him on the 20th to discuss options which I have been reading about. Pro's and con's with all of them. All have risks and all have failure rates! Also I am learning what they deem a success is not necessarily what their patients deem a success. Have been offered to look at UAE but has80% "success" rate. This does not include leaving you with a vaginal discharge for several months and bits of fibroids falling away. That is a success. Just replacing one problem with another.
