Hi all
I have been struggling for several years now with bloating, belching, constipation, floating stools and general digestive discomfort, and more recently right shoulder pain. After going to the doctors on several occasions recently for tests (bloods and stool), there was an abnormal result of excessive levels of Bilirubin, which I have found out is a by product of hemoglobin breakdown and is (normally) excreted.
I have received a letter with an appointment for an abdominal ultrasound. After doing research about this, I am now 100% certain that all of my issues that have been attributed to IBS are because of gallbladder inflammation and / or stones.
In the mean time I would really like to try and get things working smoothly again. I know I need to avoid fat where possible because there is no bile to emulsify it. I also have bought the following supplements to try and help with the speed of the transit:
HCL
Bile salts
Digestive enzymes
Probiotics
Dandelion root
Can anybody advise about ways to avoid blocking up in the interim?
Thanks
Paul

Eat plenty of fibre, fruit and veg in your low fat diet. It's better than taking supplements- even herbal ones. Avoid any painkillers containing codeine or morphine as these do constipate. If all else fails, ask GP for lactulose which is basically a strong sugar solution and moves the bowels gently.
