Awaiting posterior repair and perinoplasty-how long pls before we can resume SI ?

Seems like a very selfish question sorry but Ive been living with a severe rectocele and broken doen 4th degree tear for many years .

After a 27 year relationship i am going through a divorce and have met  a new  and very understanding man .

He knows how shy i am about him seeing down there ( it really is gaping and sore and protruding ) and I never thought id have an intimate relationship with another person but I have !

I am so excited about feeling and looking better down there and wonder how long other people have had to wait until they resumed an intimate relationship ?

6 weeks ?

And was it ok ?

I know its going to be a case of when i feel ready but there are other factors to consider.

We dont get much alone time due to work and family committments and have to plan well ahead.

Also he works on the other side of the world for months at a time so some planning is needed !

Thanks x

Hello sandy this is a difficult question to answer because we are all different and heal at different times but for me it was around the 7-8 week. We probably could have had intercourse a week earlier but I just wanted to be absolutely sure everything was going to be ok. I had a post op check at 10 weeks and the Urogynaecologist asked then if we'd tried and was it ok which he was pleased about.

hi matron do you no how long some people do suffer with bowel movement and does it ever go bk to normal ....its never been easy for me but hoping will get better

I found it difficult in the early post op stages to have a bowel movement but I no longer have that problem but looking back it was probably about 10 months post op before any problems subsided. Before that I needed stool softener and Dulcolax about once a week. I think the difficulty is because healing hasn't quite taken place.

I know it's like wishing your life away but it does get better. It's 5 years since my operation and everything is going well so there's no reason you won't be the same.

And don't forget - every day towards that year is an improvement:-))))  It's all SO worth it:-))))

Hi Sandy, I had the same op as you just over 3 weeks ago on the 8th of October. I'm got my post op appointment on the 2nd of Dec so will not attempt sex until then. I'm more than happy with the results so far - after the birth of my eldest daughter nearly 24 years ago I was left with a big gape as my stitches fell out within 24hrs of the birth and they told me I'd have to go back to theatre to be re-sew! When you have a new baby thats the last thing on your mind! They said that I'd heal up which I did but with the gape. That didn't help the rectocele which came shortly after! Anyway, I have to say everything is a lot prettier down there now! Good luck x

Sandy, I'd check this with your surgeon.  Some seem to do a check up before giving the go ahead but others just give a length of time.  I was told 6 weeks but when it came to it I put it off a bit because I was nervous and did get round to it eventually but VERY gradually.  I didn't have a posterior repair though - mine was anterior.  I know the general rule of thumb is that NOTHING goes up there for 6 weeks.  But I'd still check with the surgeon:-)
