Back from Holiday

Well had a great time in the sun, unfortunately I could not swim, pool did not have easy access and the hotel was not disabled friendly at all which was a killer on my new hips.

Stairs no lift!!!  ramps well if you can walk a steep hill it would be fine!! hate to think of a wheelchair on them.

I will now embark on going to a pool in the UK to get back some movement once I can get rid of the stiffness and pain through having to do so much.   Would take me ages to get to meals... still on my crutches as my knees are so bad.

Physio booked for next week and hopefully they can get me some hydrotherapy to loosen up some tightness in my thighs.  I did my exercises each day but had hoped some water would help.

I am not going to let this spoil my recovery just look at it as a bad experience and a learning curb... I now know how much I can do...  one positive thing only need to take high dose of painkillers at night now which is somethng.

All you new people out there good luck and stay positivie.

So sorry your holiday wasn't up to scratch but your home now and I suppose glad that in the good old UK most places are relatively disabled friendly.

Yes some water exercise is great, I'm still waiting for my hydrotherapy appointment to come through but I'm sure it will not be long.

Some of the big pools should have a small heated pool for recovery patients. I would be happy to pay

Thank you and yes glad to be home.....

I would pay to go to a pool but the local pool is only an all day entry....and again difficult to get into.

I am trying to seek out another pool in the area and the facilities and if they do an hourly charge...

I have been waiting 2 yrs for hydrotherapy was supposed to have to ease my joints before the op.. lol   good that our hospitals have the resources but they are limited to use.

Where abouts roughly are you, I'm midlands lots of pools but non specifically for people who need heat and exercise therapy, I don't even have a bath, had to have a wetroom fitted, looks nice and easy for quickness but I cant lay in warmth which is so good for joints, think I will fit a bath back and have a hoist LOL

I am in Eastbourne, enough said... too young to have joint problems.

We also have a wet room... thought we might have got a bath at the hotel but no it was a shower... just want to lay in warm water....  might have to go and stay with my daughter to have a bath..

I'm the same, its never bothered me but would love one so much now.

Didn't you have a problem with joints before replacement???

    • Posted

Yes I have had problems for many years, but the local hospital refused to replace them as I am under 60yrs of age.

Once I am over having both hips replaced in August then consultant will look at the knees...

I have Oesto and Rhumatoid arthritis throughout my joints so it is a case of pain relief not more mobility as nothing they can do on my spine and neck.

    hi elaine,

so sorry to hear this, darling ... hopefully the sunshine was plentiful ..

I have been in travel for decades (the last decade I handled complaints) and usually hotels are pretty good in accomodating the less abled -- depending on which country of course .... in this day and age their website should also give all the information ---

if they offered something and did not deliver, you can always file a complaint and express your disappointment -

good to read you are able to reduce your pain medication !!!

please come back and let us know how you are getting on ...

    big warm hug

    renee
