Back home from surgery.Got more than expected.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd give a quick update on what happened with my surgery.

I went in on Tuesday 25th November after being told I would need my right ovary removed. This was due to several complex cysts and an elevated ca125 result.

Well I went down for surgery Tuesday afternoon and was told it would take roughly an hour. When I came round I found out the surgery had taken 2 and a bit hours. Apparently a large amount of my bowel and some other adhesions had become stuck to it chasing it to be a lot trickier than theyd thought to remove it.

I was kept in overnight as had to have a catheter and a drain in my tummy.

My surgeon visited next morning and said the cysts looked like very old cysts with dried blood in them and to the naked eye looked more inflammatory than cancerous but of course that now needs to be confirmed officially. I was allowed home about a day and a half after I went in and am just allowing myself to relax and recover for now.

Got some dull period type pains and bleeding down below.

Be interested to hear anyone else's experiences of this procedure. Thanks for reading everyone x

Exactly the same happened to me.  I was in surgery for 3 - 4 hours (not sure how long exactly but in recovery after 4 hours).  I had lots of adhesions, some of which they have left alone.  They removed a cyst the size of a grapefruit which was also stuck.  My operation was done on 13th November.

    Hope you are recovering well?

    Best wishes

Quite good really.  I think a week after the op was the turning point for me.  I have also had to contend with a wound that won't heal and am having to have it dressed and packed daily (although they think I might be able to go to every other day now), so this has been quite sore.

I still feel very tender, but found that each day I feel stronger and stronger and am able to do a little more each day, to the point where I have to stop myself from doing things I know I shouldn't.

I found the wind was causing me most pain, but I kept up the paracetamol and ibuprofen, also colafax when needed, and that all seemed to help.  I also drank plenty of water.

A peppermint capsual to relieve wind, like windeeze.  After the first day or two I noticed an improvement each day.  Just keep up with the painkillers for a few days (or as long as you feel you need them) and then reduce them gradually when you feel ready, until you feel you don't need them any more.  I'm only taking one paracetamol at night now, but I do feel stiff in the morning.

Yes i found I've been able to ease off on the paracetamol now. Still quite weak especially after a couple of short walks and keep making myself feel worse by looking at my stitches! Why oh why must I keep doing that?
