back pain

Hi!I had a total right hip replacement at the end of January this year,I have had my hip x rayed and all is well. But ever since i started to walk without my crutches-about 5 months ago,ive been having back pain, lowerback, between the middle of back to right hip.I walk my dogs 3 times a day,one long walk and 2 half hour walks,of course they love a ball thrown for them-trouble is,after a few throws, the very localised pain becomes sharp and it takes me a while to stand up from a bending position(picking the ball up)-I fear i may be stuck bent over some day! this pain also happens after housework, any exertion really.i could feel a "grating" at its worst so had an x ray done-came back"no further action required"i had to wait about 3 months to see my physio who has given me exersises-ive been doing them for 4 weeks now and everything is still the same,in fact,i think its the exercises causing my hip to hurt as well.it also seems to be getting worse as before i could get through half the day pain free ,but its been quite painful already this morning-one has to bend!(a million times a day,it seems!) has anyone any ideas, please? thanks in advance

wish I had some helpful advise to offer you. but you seem to have gone down all the right channels perhaps you should get a referral to aback specialist through your GP for a fuller investigation with am mri scan. I wish you well and pain free soon.

Hello Pam, it is very likely that you displaced your back leading up to or after surgery and that seeing a good non McTimoney chiropractor will put you right.
Cheers Richard

thankyou Richard-ive had an x ray-wouldnt it have shown up on that? x

It only takes a small amount of displacement and or muscle spasm to cause back pain and it can also cause pain elsewhere too and will not show up on an X ray. Cheers Richard

It is worth saying that using BOTH CRUTCHES until you are walking strongly and with a good gait speeds recovery and helps to avoid damage to ones back.
Cheers, Richard

Pam, have you tried pilates, It is helping my lower back pain. I was having a big problem standing and hobbled when first started walking, I started using my elliptical walker at ten weeks went back to exercises classes at six months post op. I have not rushed anything, I did not want to create further issues. Compared to others on this site I am very late in doing certain things but, I prefer not to take risks.

Hi there
Thank you for your feedback..My initial surgery was performed using a posterior approach and I appeared to be recovering at a normal pace..however, it dislocated at 8 weeks post op after I turned and lent over...it then did it again at 16 weeks post op whilst climbing out of the shower...(should have got out with the operated leg first)...did it again 6 weeks ago whilst kneeling and twisting then sitting...without going into details...a word to the wise...always have a phone within reach and provide some kind of access to your house if your're home alone...
My SI and back problem started over a year ago..Ive seen physios, and a pain management consultant..and a few days before this recent dislocation a Spine surgeon who said..."your back is a mess"..I was to have further MRI's but this has now been put on hold until my surgery next week.
