    Hi Marielle,

I agree the only way to truly say what the problem is, if it is bad is with an MRI scan. NSAIDs are moderate pain killers, which also reduce inflammation, but the fact that these alone help I would hope is a good sign. a lot of back pain , even when much worse at source, has an element of muscular pain and spasm. Warm baths. or heats pads bought from chemist or supermarket ( or cool pads too ) you will probably find helpful. They warm the area, increase blood flow to the area and relax muscles. If it is persistent you really need to see your GP and poss get an MRI scan, because you are temp.'y relieving the symptoms at the moment, but depending on your circumstances you may need to know what the root cause is, eg herniated disc, atrhritis, etc....point of note, my pain specialist told me that after going swimming to go in the sauna ( heat, relaxes muscles ) - but then to do nothing strenuous for next few hours as back muscles will be relaxed and will easily be aggravated,

    Hello marieelle,

don't let it drift on hoping it will sort itself out,  speak to your GP and don't be fobbed off with temporary pain relief.  You mention other problems and yes they could very well be related / coming from your back.  Write down all your problems  and take the list with you to the GP.

      Hello marshall,

it could be just a matter of time for your body to get used to the drugs before the spaced out feeling resolves,  hope the op goes well next month and you get good results from that.  The numbness tingling and pain you are having is something you will have to work on once the hand op is over,  sounds like it is all coming from your back ....   I empathise with you in these feelings ... the hands as well,  I just rely on good pain relief,  the Doc's are not interested and I have given up on them - best avoided and live life as best you can doing what you can for your self.   Not much of life but the options do not exist for anything better - the black hole is full of people collecting fat salaries and doing prescious little else.

      Best wishes for next month

      warmest regards

Thank you for your reply Jessie had a bad week not had a full night sleep since last Sunday been laying awake all night in agony with the tingling and numbness in the feet and toes i looked at the local hospital reviews about the dept I went too and read some reviews from people having the same problem as me lack of care and treatment rude I've lost faith in the NHS now it seems it's all down to money and not treating sick people low morale under staff and bad management lack of funding

      Take care and be strong

      Best wishes

      Hello Marshall,

sorry you are having such a bad time,  lack of sleep does make everything so much harder to deal with.   Do you know what started the pain off initially?  I  don't know what age you are I hope you are not young, reading your reply to marieelle made me feel for you,  a life time of pain is all I have known and now in my 60's I wonder what the bleep it has all been about.  Is awful to think that in this day and age people still suffer with so much pain. I know the reason for my pain, just wish it had been dealt with better when I was young, that I had done so many things differently.

The way the NHS is we can only do what we can for our selves to a great degree,  if you can find a chiropractor that is good, who you can trust and can afford......  get opinions from them,  take the results to your Dr and ask what the outlook is long term.  A life time of pain relief meds is not good, not good at all,  it has worn me down and I am now quite bitter.  Sorry,  did not mean to ramble on in a jumbled way.

Basically all I can suggest is get all the information you can about your condition,  get as much exercise as you can, walking and swimming are the best I can suggest.  Take care of your body, don't do things that will put stress on your back, try to do stretching exercises to keep the spine as supple as you can, keep your core muscles as strong as you can.  Fresh air and just walking with rests now and then should help with your sleep, when you can't sleep get up and wander about, is better than tossing and turning in bed, my back needs time to adjust to laying down - takes usually three attempts at going to bed before I can get 3 or 4 hours sleep at one stretch.  I have heard good reports about a drug called Amytriptaline (sp), never taken it myself but it does seem good for what you describe.     I am rattling on...........

I wish you all the best marshall,  hope you can get help with the pain and it is not life long.  Take good care of yourself......

      Warmest regards

      Jessie xx
