Back pain has moved from RHS TO LHS, anyone hear of this

Hi all, I'm new to the site and I hope some may be able to aid me and that my yrs of experience will aid others.

Brief history; injured myself in 2001, had lumbar dysectomy in 2002 which didn't take and have lived with sciatica since. I go to see a pain specialist at the UofA hospital and I take 1200mg of gabapentin 3 times a day and 40mg of metadol 3 times a day too.

Two weeks ago I had incredible pain in my back, went to my doc and was diagnosed with 2 slipped discs. Now my pain was across the back (couldn't say if I had leg pain as I live with it daily) and into my left buttocks. Now, the pain has moved mainly to RHS of low back (although it still is entire back) and buttocks but now goes down into groin area and into the front portion of the upper leg.

Has anyone ever heard of the pain moving like this after two weeks?

Also, for me to be in terrible pain with what I already take says just how much pain I'm I.

I can barely get out of bed, or get up from a chair and getting out of my truck is a chore. Some mornings I can't even put on my socks.

Is this "new" setback something that'll ease up and get better with time as there doesn't seem to be any nerve problems yet?

Thanks all, and hopefully I'll be able to add my 2 cents and help others in the future.

My pain is similar to yours, but I only take 600mg gabapentin at night time released kind and musicle relaxors some.  I hurt the most when setting around in one place.  I currently get pain injections every 90 days, that makes things better for about 40 to 45 days.  My pain all started in the last 3 yrs from when I broke my pelvis in the later 1980s in a work accident.  It started in my left hip first then down the left leg and groin.  MRI showed the disk problem.

To in order to help you it would be be helpful to know a little more about you like your sex and age. As for pain moving that is probably from radicular pain. Not only will pain go down your leg but it can move from side to side on your back and your buttock. When my back first went out it actually wasn't my back at all that I felt the pain in it was my piriformis muscle. I had a trigger point injection done there and the pain disappeared in my piriformis muscle but then appeared in my lower back which is actually where the pain must have been originating from because that's where it's been now for the last 13 years. I have a couple of ideas of something you might have but I need to know your age and your sex before I can determine that. So please answer those questions and I'll get back with you. Thanks
