Bad day.

Hi hippies. I am having a bad hip day today. First proper one I have had since my operation which was almost 3 weeks ago.

I had the dressing taken off my wound on Monday and I have dissolvable stitches but also have paper (butterfly) stitches over them. They have started falling off, and today the skin is sooooo sensitive, but only on 1side because the other side is numb, good thing really. I can't have any clothing touching it at all and my hip is very sore today. I just hope I haven't over done things as in walking and excersises. Just feeling a little bit sorry for myself today after doing so well. 👎😞😞😞

Week three was definitely my worst.  After doing very well, suddenly everything ached, I couldn't do my exercises as well, moving around was harder. I went back to the walker for going outside when I was using the cane in week 2. I had my first therapy session that week.  It made me realize how much I had lost and how far I needed to go.  But this passes.  I promise.  You'l see.

Hi Julie. 3 weeks is very early days. But here is the place for a good moan. Once your wound is dry I find arnica gel and bio oil is a great help

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow but hip is stronger but still stiff and achy. However I found things change on a daily basis. Yesterday it was front of calves. Day before it was knees. Today wound area. Lots of healing going on as this op has been brutal.

The worst is over and the healing journey is a roller coaster ride. You will be fine and all normal.

    Healing hug. Xxx

This 3 week mark seems to be a doozie. Hit 3 weeks yesterday. Had first out-patient PT session on Tuesday and sitting here wondering how am I going to make it through this long, slow rehab process. I get up and move around but once I do the exercises, its rough!!! Supposed to go to PT twice a week....I hope I'm over the aches of one session before time for the next session. Keep smiling and stay focused that one day we'll be good as new!! 😛💃🏽👠😛💃🏽👠😛

Hi Julie; I felt the same way once my staples were removed they put the butterfly stitches on and said to let themfall off on their own. I had a couple of stubborn ones that would swell and hurt and not fall off but eventually they did.  Just wear soft clothing to the touch that helps  I wor pj pant for quite awhile as they did not bother me a much as other clothing.  The skin will stay sensitive for a long time depending on the person I guess.  I am sorry to hear your hip is very sore today hang in there it it will be ok.  If it hurts too much I just cooled it with the execises.  That helps to.

Feel better you are not alone and it will all work out it just takes time.

    Take care Judith

    Hugs,

    June

Hi Julie, its early days yet things are bound to go up and down. Most of us have done things like this, overdoing it and then suffering for a few days. i have had meny "bad hip" days.  But its worth it in the end. having had both hips replaced both my hips done has changed my life. Lots of luck.

I'm three weeks post op too, I didn't have stitches just glue which meant the dressing could come off sooner. I echo what others have said we're all different and heal at different rates. I just do what my body tells me, if I'm tired I sleep, if I feel strong then I exercise, if I need fresh air I get out for a walk.

I've got my first pt session tomorrow so I'm interested in how they think I've improved also found a special session in my local swimming pool for disabled and recovering patients which I'm going to attend, this should also help with the exercises.

    Take care

I had staples. They were removed last week - so 2 weeks in. Incision looks great. It's closed and healing well. I want to do some water therapy but not quite ready to go into a public pool. Will give it another couple of weeks to play it safe.

Aw Julie it's impossible not to have a bad day ! Welcome to the up and downers club .. One day good, one day bad etc . Sounds like you have overdone it and the consequent pain can drag you down .. Have a rest, be kind to yourself and I am sure you will rise up again xx

I think my wound was really itchy around that stage too Julie.I think generally your body responds well to the exercise so don't worry -sounds like you're being active and positive in many ways. Keep it up. Each day things will settle a little more. It is 2 steps forward one back some days.

    I think you're doing great....

    Hey Hippie Julie,

Just a natural reaction to your body cleaning out all of the anaesthetic and coming down on the narcotics...

A bit of Vaseline around the perimeter away from the stitchea may help things glide over. You can put a loose gauze bandage on to protect the sensitive skin. Just be sure that air can get in. This too will pass.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hippie judith
