Bad throat pain for almost 1 year

I am a 26 year old female from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I found this forum when I was actively researching my diagnosis (LPR). I have been reading different topics, and decided to create a profile and maybe get some answers.

So I have been dealing with throat issues for almost a year now. I basically had strep throat for 6 months straight (April - October). I was referred to an ENT, who took my tonsils out on October 17th 2014. My throat infections have stopped, but now I am dealing with something called Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (Silent Reflux). When I am sleeping, acid comes up from my stomach and burns my esophagus, vocal cords and throat. I was put on a ppi called pantoprozole almost a month ago, and don't feel any relief yet. My mom reminded me that I have a hiatus hernia, since I was a child, but it never bugged me untill now. It's what's most likely the cause of my LPR. It's coincidence that it started to act up around the same time of the constant infections. My voice has also been hoarse this whole time. I am not sure what to do anymore. This is definately effecting my life and I am soo tired of having terrible throat pain all day, every day! I am in desperate need of advice/support from people dealing with this same thing. Thanks for reading.

      Hello, Deirdre.

Thank you for replying to my post. Yes, I have been going through hell with this throat for the past 10 months. I am going back to see my ENT soon. I am starting to think there is no cure for LPR. I really hope I don't have to live with it for the rest of my life!.

I AM sure that your specialist will try to do more if you tell them just how badly it is affecting your life,,, it can make every day miserable, stress this point and tell them it is causing you to suffer from depression..... SINCERE REGARDS ,,Deirdre xxx 😃😆

I have told him that, but he is convinced that the acid pills will work. We will see I guess!

      Thanks again Deirdre smile

My LPR also started after respiratory flu like symptoms.  Never had any gastric /indegestion problems before. My throat always hurt and chest. I took ppi's for 3 months, but they did not work for me. I have been seen by few ENT and they say its reflux and take ppi's despite the fact I don't get relief from them.  This has really effected my life and my family. I've had lpr for 11 months and searching for cure. Doing some research on the linx surgery.  What so frustrating is the lack of understanding amongst doctors and there is no one pill that stops all reflux.  In my case its not just acid reflux, but also bile, pepsin.  I think my next option is surgery.

Losing weight helps abit with reflux.

I feel your pain feb. I was on the Ppi's for a little over and month. They were really making my stomach upset and i had a bad headache that lasted 5 days straight (even despite taking pain killers). I stopped taking them a few days ago. This weekend was horrible with the pain in my throat and left ear. I am having trouble swallowing anything and find it kind of hard to take a breath. I never had that symptom before. I am calling my doctor tomorrow to request an endoscope to see what's up with this apparent hiatus hernia i had since i was a child.

It's just brutal to go through all of this. I hope you can find relief with all of this, feb. I am also thinking of surgery. At this pont, i will try anything. I had my tonsils removed a few months ago because of constant throat infections, and now this. In april, it will be a year of having a constant sore throat every day of my life.
