Balance

I was diagnosed with meaniers 25 years ago. I have been pretty lucky witb only short spells of vertigo until about 5 months ago. I had a small vertigo attack but to this day my balance is horrible. I feel as if so.eone is pushing me off a cliff l am so depressed because I feel as if it is so.ething else and the doctors are missing it. It does not help that the MRI found ax tiny brain benign brain tumor so that adds to anxiety. Yep good neuro docs said the tumor is way too small to cause a ny problems. Any way my question is does any one have severe balance problems after a vertigo attack. I have the tinnitus more like buzzing alot and hearing loss. I take valium for anxiety. What else can I do I have not been to ent because I have been without symptoms for years.

your next step is to see ENT so that you can be dianosed properly.  Be sure that the ENT you see specializes in inner ear diseases....not all ENT do.  You may need to go to an ENT at a University hospital to see the proper specialist.  Inquire when you make the appointment.  There have been a lot of protocol changes for MD in last 25 years.....

Are you doing the basics....no salt, no caffeine, taking diuretic (water pill)?  If you are taking a diuretic the dose may need to be increased to pull more fluid out of the inner ear area.

Good luck and please let us know what the ENT says.

I saw ent but I dont think she knows much about the diease i have hearing test on the 27th

I am just concerned about the balance hanging on and if that is normal. I am starting therapy in a week. I am on valium for panic attacks anxiety is high right now. Also does wind affect it because it has been blowing hard for four days now and it makes it hard for me to even concentrate.

Yes Menieres and vertigo do cause anxiety and depression.. Try not to add to anxiety with thoughts of tumors..It just adds to anxiety as you say,Recently had a MRI and was clear of tumors..I have been refered by the neuroligist  to see ENT... I struggle all day with balance / headaches and my sight perception is strange because of the vertigo..I gave my licence to drive in three weeks ago..I just try and be as happy as I can and move forward.. The symptoms have changed so much over the last 5 years,, All the best..

    It's a miserable condition.

i thought I was going to lhave to leave worRd.

my daughter is on a restricted diet so over a year ago I gave up all soy.

within one day the dizziness had dissipated.

    it's easy if you're a label reader.

try it! I hope it works for you.

    Dear jonese98459,

Yes, I have always experienced severe loss of balance after attacks of vertigo.  Before I began on intratympanic steroid injections, I had been barely able to walk straight for over a year.  I went to physical therapy for balance retraining/desentization training with a physical therapist who knew a lot about Meniere's, and it helped a lot.  Since having the injections, on the rare occasions that I have had vertigo, my balance  is off for a day, but then it comes back 100%.

I would suggest physical therapy.  And I don't know if your MD is progressing, but it might not hurt to discuss steroid injections with your ENT, at your next appointment.

I wish you the very best of luck!!

    Sincerely,

    J-

Thank you for your sharing with me your issues with balance. I am so tired right now and praying that I can get help soon. The valium is at least letting me rest for now at night. I should get full approval for therapy soon. One more thing I am really angry I think it is part of the meaniers. That and anxiety have about taken its toll. God bless and thank you again
