Bending knee after total knee replacement

Posted , 3 users are following.

Good morning,

i had TKR on Monday, it was more complex as I needed a hinged knee. I am really struggling to bend the knee. I think this is due to pain and swelling. I was put on the CPM machine at hospital and managed a 60 degree bend but can't do anything at home. I am not seeing physio until Tuesday. Any advice?

Thank you you in advance

This will likely be due to inflammation of he joint capsule.

It will get better, but you must keep trying.

Can you bend the knee passively - i.e. get someone else to bend it for you?

Hi, thank you for your reply. It's def due to inflammation and the pain. I am trying but it's not working. It's too painful to let anyone touch it.  I'm only comfortable with the ice pack on. I had a previous operation where I needed a manipulation and really don't want to go down that route again.  I'm trying to put rolled up towels under knee to see if that will help. I wish I had CPM machine at home!
