Better days coming

hi hippies.  Now nearly four weeks post op.  Walking much better now.  Today  tackled three stairs properly, went well but I am taking my time.  Swelling a lot better today.  You have to listen to your body I have found.   Taking time to do things is very important.  Have also managed to sleep better on my good side but won't try the other one just yet.  After some days of doubting if I would ever feel any better, it does come!  I am so glad and grateful to be out of that horrible pain I would do it again.   So take heart anyone who is just beginning.  You will get there.

Well done Marlene.  Its marvellous isn't it, when one day you wake up completely pain free and feeling great.  Sometimes you begin to think that day will never come, but it does.  Its wonderful to be able to walk without pain and without limping and to be able to get up and down stairs.  If you keep to the rules, pace yourself and have a little patience, all will be well in the end.  Best wishes to you.

Your post has given me encouragement. I'm due to have a total hip replacement right hip on 29th April. I'm in pain and cannot walk very far now and I'm only 61yrs. This hip was fractured and dislocated in 1975 so it has lasted well considering how badly damaged it is. I feel I have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by having this op.

Hi. All the best fr your op. The pain relief, that horrible pain, you will not miss!  I know you have to get over the op but it does pass and is so worth it. As long as you take it easy and don't expect too much too soon. I am 75 so didn't think I would do so well but being a walker anyway I think kept me going.  You will be fine, with all the encouragement on this site which is great.   Take care.

      Hi,

just read your post and wanted to reply.  I am 63 yrs young and am six weeks post op.  I have just been released to be crutch free and Tuesday will get the OK from my doctor to drive again.   Four years ago we adopted a baby boy so I have a good incentive to get better and do it the right way.  He is my inspiration to do this the right way.  I am so happy with my choice to get this done.....my 24 hour pain is gone and it's GREAT!  Of course, there are the little pangs of muscle pain that goes along with the healing process, but this is nothing compared to what it was before.

Hang in there and know that you have made a good choice......you will be able to do this and will be much happier when it's all done.
