Blip after 12 weeks?

Hello all

I started off on fluoxetine 20mg and after a few very dodgy weeks of side effects finally started to feel better at the 8 week mark. After 12 weeks I changed brand and 2 weeks in am starting to feel down again. I wonder if this is because of the brand change or whether an increased dose is required? Don't want to go through those initial weeks again - they were grim. I have been on flu 20 before and once the pills kicked in I was fine and never had a set back.

Thanks for reading and good luck to all.

Hi Kirk .... as you’ve been on it b4 you’ve got a good idea how it works? I was on 20mg to start with, and first 14 days were hell on Earth didn’t think I could get any lower, but for ME while on 20mg I had good days as well as bad, so at 4weeks I went up to 40mg, then a month after that 60mg, that’s where I am now, and I’m stating that for me, it wasn’t untill 4mth after starting this med, that my symptoms finely settled down, but I do know people on just 20mg and are happy with that, but I wanted the more up days then the down days... as for different brand I’m not sure if it’s that, I think you need to give it a couple more weeks and see then if you need to increase, as still very early days with this med to really work...

As you will be well aware that increasing may make you feel down again, just for a short while, think it depends if your happy going higher ( I was ) as some people don’t want to go higher then 20 so at the end of the day it’s your choise really, but I do think you need more time on the med first and see if it will settle down... good luk and I do hope it does settle down and you start to feel good x

Hi Kirk. I didn’t experience the exact same thing but I use to be on Prozac form 5 years then I it off of it for almost 6 months and recently went back on again. It’s been 2 weeks. Very difficult 2 weeks for sure. So I totally get it. Why’d you change brands?

      Hi Dawn/Tina

Thanks for the replies. My first 12 weeks were on Prozac which I got online (silly I know). After plucking up the courage to go to the docs I was prescribed the generic version of fluoxetine which I'm now 2 weeks into. So 14 weeks overall.

Hi Kirk, I am on 20 mg, & I always ask for the same generic everytimI get a refill, I'm a firm believer if a brand works for you, stick with it rather than take a chance on another brand of generic.

Hi kirk my pharmasist told me that if your taking the same meds , but different brand , it makes no difference . my advive after feeling better after 8 weeks is to have another chat to your gp, to see if you need to increase , yes it's grim at the start as if we didn't feel bad enough !!, I'm ,9 weeks into inceaese and I'm feeling much better with a couple of little blips , good luck hun!!
