BM talk again !!!

7 weeks on I am still having trouble going to the toilet !!!

Still on Movicol and docusate and they are working fine - stools are very soft !! It is the actual going which is the issue.

After a chat with Matron I did feel like I am in the process of having to retrain me and my body on how to actually have a BM as its not worked like that for a lot of years. I will have an Ok day where I feel sort of in control but would never describe myself as having emptied my bowels and then the next day it will be like I have been superglued and regardless of the fact I know it is all sat there and soft there is nothing I can do to get it out !!! In the past before surgery when I have had that feeling I would just push the bulge in the vagina !! I hate the fact that this is coming into my head as that's when I panic the prolapse is back !!! I do feel like everything moves feeling like its pushing out again when I try to go and I know this sounds like a really stupid question but define straining !? Surely I have to push a bit !?

Sorry definitely on a down day - not coping aswell today with the BM issues !!

Hello Bunky. I'm sorry you are still having problems but I do think you need to give it a bit more time. Whenever someone asks me something that I'm not 100% sure of the answer I start doing some research. This problem is probably more common than I thought and in some areas (mine included) Urogynaecologists have started working with colorectal consultants to help women who have this problem before and after a rectocele repair. I would speak to your GP and ask if there's anyone in your health trust that does this type of outpatient clinic.

Thanks Matron ! I am seeing the consultant again a week tomorrow - is it something he would be able to refer me to or would a GP be better !? X

Leave it to your consultant Bunky because if he does think a referral to another consultant is appropriate it will be much quicker than through your GP. He may have other ideas though because at the end of the day he is the expert and he knows your bits and pieces almost as well as you do. Start writing down when you have the problem, date, time etc and what the outcome is because if you're like me when it comes to the appointment other things tend to take over.

Thanks Matron that's actually a really good idea as I forget to mention things aswell !

Bunky, I know exactly what you mean when you say 'define straining' because I thought the same thing!  To open the muscle to allow anything to come out I felt I had to push slightly (otherwise it would come out all the time) but it's just a gentle sort of push.  I did read online somewhere about pushing so the abdomen pushes outwards or something like that - I can't remember exactly what it was but it was a way of avoiding putting pressure on the vagina I think.  I've a feeling I've not been much help here, but hopefully just knowing that you're not the only one to not understand how you don't strain at all to 'go' might help!

Thank you Chris ! I felt so stupid asking the question but I think this op makes you so paranoid about the damn prolapse returning that I just wasn't sure ! There is no way at the moment I could sit on the toilet and do nothing ! I would be there all day with piles and no BM !!! Maybe tmi !! Sorry !! Hehe X

Oh I'm sorry - but my first thought was I wouldn't let you anywhere near a rocking chair in my home Joan LOL!

Haha !!! You know what if it meant I actually went 'normally' I would convert a rocking chair into a loo ! :-)

    Hi all,

I'm so pleased you've asked this question! I sit in the loo thinking the same thing! I remember reading the rocking thing... I think in an early post on here and that works for me. Haha... Something I would never admit anywhere other than on here...

I'm also absolutely paranoid that the prolapse is going to return so you're not on your own there either!

Gosh, what has happened to us all lol 😂

Oh this forum is the only place I could ask these sorts of things lol and say that I will definitely try the rocking theory lol X
