Body and anxiety

Is it me or does all of us feel like when our anxiety is up full force it seems to pick a part of the body we focus on the most mine is my shoulders and thighs like it's horrible and if course it's making me think something is wrong with me I thump myself all the time and say your fine Monique I also learned a new one putting a rubber band on my wrist when my mind gets to wondering I pull it a few times saying the same thing I'm fine it's just the hormones raring up but back to story does anyone feel this way that your anxiety picks a certain part if your body to either hurt feel weak or just aggravated.

Hi Monique , i recently went to my kenesiologist, i had a horrible sensation in my stomach like a permanent cramp knotted feeling. We had a bout of family problems including a death and an attempted suicide.  Well she asked me weather id had any stress recently!  It turned out my stomach muscles had contracted into a knot which she had to work out twice cos it went back again. She said stress.anxiety attacks def affects our bodys and seems to attack our weak spots, the main two being the head and the stomach. So yes theres  def a connection between body and anxiety.  Glad you have mastered a teqcnique  which helps, your taking control of your mind which has to be a good thing.

I agree my grandson was born on the 14th and had to have cpr for seven minutes. He has been in intensive care for over a week hooked up to breathing machines and all sorts. I'm happy to say that he is doing fantastic now and we are hoping he will be coming home Friday. But seeing my 33 year old son break down and sob broke my heart.

I've had bad anxiety on and off in my nine years of peri but I do believe this has set a flare up off x

I've also got to go hospital tomorrow for a neck lump as well so I think that's playing on my mind also x

Hi Michell. sorry to hear about your grandson - glad he is getting better now - it will be a boost for you when he comes home on friday. Is your neck lump where your thyroid glands are out of interest?(remember we spoke about having your thyroid retested previously?) About the cbt - I had one to one cbt about 6yrs ago - it was life changing for me after having long bouts of anxiety & depression since my 20's. Really helped to retrain my thought processes. Takes discipline & practice, but becomes automatic thinking after a while. You should look into it hun. One to one is best rather than group - i think you open up more. xxx

      Hi loo loo

Went hospital today regarding lump. He is sending me for a scan and biopsy. He said something about it being on my thyroid as it moves when I swallow?

I have had thyroid blood tests all normal so not really sure what's going on.

I'm waiting for scan and biopsy appointment and have to go back in three weeks for results.

I'm trying hard not to worry.

My grandson is due home Friday all being well. He truly is a miracle baby I thank God.

As for the cbt I will definitely look into that.

Thank you so much for replying.

Hope you are doing well x

Hi Michelle. Take it your thyroid bloods were done last few weeks? The reason I asked about lump on your neck was it around thyroid area is if there are thyroid problems it can make your thyroid glands swell & they look at it when you swallow! coincidence? symptoms? thyroid problems can mess up hormones too!!! Hmmm. what type of specialist was it you saw? When you go back I would ask him to look at your last thyroid blood test on computer (hosp have access to doc records/tests) to see if HE can spot anything/pointers worth further in depth testing. I'm not sure the ins & outs when they do thyroid bloods, but if one is high, & one is normal or borderline it can make you come into the category "sub" or "pre" hyper or hypo thyroidism & is enough to start making other things (like hormones, weight, wellbeing, tiredness) go wrong. sometimes gp's look at bloods a bit blase compared to how a specialist might spot something that is not quite right (gp's are general practitioners after all not specialists). When you go back to the specialist that looked at your neck lump ask him if HE can refer you to an endocrinologist (you mentioned this before) as they can look at hormones, thyroid, adrenal systems in you. I'm sure they would have these on nhs, but perhaps not at every hospital - you might have to go somewhere non-local. As your gp was so reluctant to refer you to one, this specialist may do so if you ask if he thinks there could be a link with your thyroid. Please try not to worry Michelle; the very fact I asked you straight away - was it in your thyroid area-shows you I was thinking thyroid problems not the "c" word that you probably have in the back of your mind. Enlarged thyroid areas rarely mean "c" & are much more commonly related to thyroid malfunctions. A friend of mine had a goiter removed couple of years ago (enlarged thyroid gland) & her periods are now back to normal after terribly heavy, painful, erratic periods, & she has much more energy - just shows you the effect thyroid in your neck can affect hormones in rest of your body!!! For now, try to focus on your beautiful grandson coming home & enjoy him & your family. When you have some quieter time look in to the cbt. Maybe the anxiety helpline your doc gave you have a cbt service in your area. It is available on nhs (mine was through nhs). If no joy with the helpline, contact your doc again & ask her to refer you for one to one cbt (that's how mine was arranged). You've got nothing to lose have you hun? Thankyou for your kind wishes to me; had a ct scan on my kidney/ureter/bladder tues night - results/consult in 4wks - suspect kidney stone again. got colonoscopy sat afternoon on day i was meant to be going on holiday(had to cancel). dreading the bowel prep I have to take fri eve/sat morning-really awful & have to stay near toilet - say no more!. not really worried about procedure-had several before, & having sedation so i know what to expect. Hope i can stay awake in the evening to watch the euro match with my hubby!!.. xxxx

It messes with my stomach and chest. When I start feeling anxious my stomach and feels extra gassy and chest feels like indigestion. Once I finally get calm, all sensations go away. It's crazy.

Yes - this is when I let my anxiety and sadness gang up on my stomach, hips, and thighs, where I've gained a lot of weight over the last year.  I like the rubber band idea.

It seems that as soon as I try to relax one part of my body and reassure myself I'm fine the hormones start on another part and the anxiety starts all over again. Like a vicious circle - there is a pattern for me - it gets worse 10 days before during and 10 after due date even with or without the presence of a monthly bleed. Oh such joys.

    Hugs to all xx

You will find during the peri phase, everything that was a minor irritation, now becomes a 'in yr face' issue. Some days I feel like I am falling apart.  Trying to deal with one, then another one pops up.  Some are new issues, like my ears - Pusatile Tinnitus ( i did have the normal one tho) and BPPV ( causing vertigo). The old issues were migraines ( they got really, really bad) and hip issues, and generally hormonal things. It sucks, but we will get thru this!! Rest up and breathe deeply. It does have an end. smile
