I had breast cancer 4 years ago, aged 57 - and wanted to go on Tibolone recently. Consulted a specialist and was thrilled when she said I could try it. 2.5mg on alternate days has made me blow up, gain half a stone, get awful joint pains, and worst of all made the affected breast so painful, I couldn't touch it. Needless to say I have come off it and will take my chances!

I had BC in 1998 removal of lymph nodes which were clear and decided not to take tamoxifen as I was 45 and it dosent always work and the fact that I didn't want menopause to strat then. I have had the usual awful symptoms of menopause for the last couple of years and I am 54. My GP referred me to menopause clinic and they have allowed me to try Tibolon but only half a tablet a day since 5 November 07. I am just starting to feel much better, happier and more my old self. No pains in my joints at all. I will know better in Feb and I will be havig thorough checks by the clinic at that time too.

I am 60 and had taken Tibolone for about 4 years after suffering from bad hot flushes, night sweats, panic attacks, lack of sleep etc. For some time I had been against taking any form of HRT but the above symtoms were affecting my efficiency at work and my overall wellbeing. I was amazed how quickly I felt so much better. However, just before Christmas I had a regular mammogram and was recalled for further investigations. Some abnormal cells had been found which turned out to be low grade precancerous. The cells were removed surgically and I was told to cease taking the HRT and was given a course of Tamoxifen, which is an anti oestrogen drug. The hot flushes and night sweats returned with avengence and I now seem to have 2 body temperatures - very hot and shivering! Whilst I was away on holiday at Easter time I had other health problems and made the decision to stop taking the Tamoxifen. I still have really bad hot flushes and wonder if perhaps I ought to go back onto the Tamoxifen. Some days are better than others. My GP prescribed Clonidine but that had no positive effect. Any suggestions for help? I do all the basic things to help eg. layers of clothing, avoid stressful situations, plenty of fresh air, water etc.

My consultant , although very good with dealing with breast cancer, is of little help when looking at the wellbeing of the person. She just says no to anything that gives extra oestrogen but offers no alternatives

I still work - I teach - and find these symtoms extremely uncomfortable when facing a group of people.

I haven't had breast cancer, but have been on Tibolone for the sweaty thing. I was having anything up to 30 hot sweats a day, and constantly at night. I was on them for 12 months, then the GP found out I shouldn't have been taking them at all, as I had a history of DVT and was also on the mini pill, so took me off them. Tibolone really did help with the sweats, but they came back with a vengeance. I went to a herbalist who recommended sage tea and tablets, with a combination of Evening Primrose Oil and Black Cohosh. After 2 months the sweats almost stopped, in fact, I felt better than when I was on Tibolone. Hope this is of some help.
