My leg from the Ankle half way up the side of leg is burning a lot today but think I have done a bit too much walking , took 2 Zapain earlier waiting for them to kick in xx
    • Posted

Hi Tina. Mine burns too but not because of walking at don't do any other than to loo n back. I take ZAPAIN and when they kick in they are great. But always need to sleep if I take 2 at once. Cast off today and into a boot but pain is quite bad. So nice to be free of cast's though. Hope your pain eases soon sx

    • Posted

Hi Sandra, yes they make me sleep when I take two, only for a nap tho 😴,

Ah bet it feels great that your out of cast, I was lucky as didnt need boot, but very swollen & painful esp by the end of the day, wishing you a speedy recovery x

    • Posted

Thank you Tina. Been a great relief having cast off. Boot still has to be quite firmly pumped up, and still awkward as it's very bulky. Could cut dwn on the ZAPAIN as pain Eased a lot. But now can't flipping drop off to sleep. Doc said I could take off at bedtime but have

😔 lots of sore spots from the cast and scars and don't know where to put the thing so I'm not resting on one of the sore spots lol can't win. But one step nearer now. Sx

Anybody feel like they are suffocating in their cast?

    Just want this thing of

Only been 2 weeks but feel like I'm going crazy

    • Posted

Yes Britta i know exactly how you feel, to make it worse the Dr thinks i have got cdif and may have to go in hospital for anti biotic drip, i have been so poorly this week x
    • Posted

Hi Liz like your not putting up with enough. Could cdiff be caused by all the constipation and meds. And yes cast is a nightmare. I also experienced cast crumbling ans falling. My daughter got me a large roll of cotton wool which I rolled in lend strips and pushed in the top so at least when bits drove off the cotton wool caught it. I found the most amazing use for my ENJO Flexi stick. Yes I know put nothing down cast but when there's lumps of plaster it at least let me move it down. Will you be fitted with fibreglass one.

Hi Jenni and Britta,  the only tablets im on now are paracetamol, , yes this is an infection and from what i gather its come from the antibiotic they give you after op, it can affect certain people, everything i eat goes through me and i have lost so much weight, i keep burning up and feeling nauseaus, its just rotten, im waiting on results at moment,, apart from that all good lol, my cast is a fibreglass one, that must be awful having it crumbling down your leg!!!! Hope you are both well xxx

Bloody hell. How frustrating. I remember the loo runs every 1/2 hour. And the pain of getting there. I feel for you. Medications are the pits.

Hi ladies, just come back from having 50 staples removed and with the help of 2 diazepam was no where near as bad as i though it would be. The stafff were amazing! So new cast on for 4 weeks then going into a boot so i feel im winning, hope you are all doing ok xxxxx

50 staples. How did you even have a foot left. Omg I was bitching about a dozen. Another step forward.on the mending road. I was so sensitive I couldn't even have dressing on mine. So I had daily salt soaks to avoid infections. For me it worked. Others have been told to keep dry. Good travels Liz

      Wow 50 staples !!!!

      Glad all went well.

      I had mine yesterday

Removed stitches and back in another open cast for 4 weeks but am allowed to do some weight bearing woop woop

But am to scared to lol xx

    • Posted

Hi ladies. Like, I'm sorry to read that you have been poorly. Let's hope your feeling better soon on the new meds. 50 staples. Wow what a scare. Why that big? Think I had about 15 on the one side and 9in the other. We are all going g forward Nd that's the way. Yes it's frightening when they say you can do little walking for the first time in weeks. My cast off last Friday but still not full weight bearing. As I'm frightened to do so. But I'm getting better every day. Showers are fab skin is clearly up great too, nearly all back to normal. Boot has made my foot a bit sore in places but nice to be able to take it off and cream foot. Have a lot of aching. But once it's back in the boot for a while it gives the support it needs for a bit then I take it off for a breather,!! So onwards and upwards for us all ladies. Sx

Oh god Liz you poor thing, 50 staples 🙈

Hope you will soon be on the mend hun ,x

Hi ladies. Well after a few good days. Today hasn't been too good pain wise. I've had aching all day, both in the boot and out of the boot. Just haven't known what to do. Pain and not able to get a comfy position on pillows. Now really tired and still painful and a bit twitchy which sets pain upto a 10!!! Not needed painkillers other than paracetamol but just taken ZAPAIN.. So let's hope it kicks in soon and I'm fasto.... Fingers Xsd for good day tomorrow. Sx

Morning, i must admit i was shocked to learn i had 50 staples, im glad they told me after lol,, i can imagine how nervous you must be now you can do light weight bearing, but it must be a lovely feeling, hope all you other ladies are feeling ok today xx
    • Posted

Morning all. Well the ZAPAIN did the trick. Asleep till 6this morning. Foot nice and chilled so far. Just put boot on to walk to tell loo, then back off and on bed, little colour and swelling just doing that but no pain. Fingers Xsd that it stays that way today, as I'm going to give it another go dwn stairs and a bit of 'sit den' ironing..... Who would think I want to iron!! Lol hope you all have a good one today. Sx

Hi Britta, I broke my Fibula April 8th but fortunately didnt need surgery, Just an up to the knee Cast which was removed 24th May, In a lot of pain walking today so may need to take Zapain later!

Hi ladies. Another good day. Shower. Down stairs and managed to cook lunch for my son and myself. Also managed to do cooked dinner for all of us for tea!!. All from the ? The biggest thing was managing the step out into the laundry room to use the loo!!! Whoop Whoop, go me. Just came back upto bed now. And even that's getting easier because I can put a bit of weight of foot, but still on my bum. Got quite a bit of pain in my knee, on the bad leg, think it's from where the boot is higher than shoe on good foot, so think I've twisted it bit. Foot quite swallan and painful now so just taken ZAPAIN. I've managed to nearly cut out all tabs during the day, that k goodness. But the ZAPAIN helps at the end of day plus helps with 😴 😴. So yet another progressive day... Night all. Sx

Hi ladies. Had a few good days. Managed a bit of cleaning yesterday as the state of the house is getting me dwn ever more nowadays I'm downstairs. Hubby and son do their best, but not my standard. Did lunch n Tea again yesterday. Managed to shower without having a chair in room to help. Just had appt for my first physio for the 14th June at bloody 9an!!! That's going to be fun to get to. Both my girls still on holy so it had to be by ambulance or taxi's..... GRRR rr. We are getting there girls, even if if is just cutting carrots and making gravy. Agree with TV and all the make over programmes. But I do love Judge Judy.... Lol. Now time for lunch so whiz Sandie in ?... Then the aching begins as I'm not good with upper body strength. Would think I'd have arms like Arnie!! . 💪 💪 💪 💪. Sx

Good to know.. well done. Haven't been on the forum after my initial post as my phone has given up on me as well!!! I he started my 4th week today and understand wat you mean. I am trying to do as much I can and also cooking everyday which is taking double the time than usual. Thanks to the knee scooter. Its so good.. I don't have to rely on anyone well not much but able to do things for my kids and few other jobs at home.

I'm not a TV person so don't watch much but trying to study a bit. Good luck!! We will get there slowly.

Hi lade. Hard one today. Online shop arrived so started to clean out the freezer, even found that difficult!!! Cooked lunch tea again, but the pin and swelling has been bad all day. Just taken ZAPAIN hopi g it's going to knock me out for a while. I'm getting a lit of pain on my knees and sure it's because of the difference in height with the boot and normal shoe? Don't really want to fork out any more money on shoes that I will never wear again just to get the height needed to match up with boot. Plus may only have boot for another 3weeks if I'm lucky. Who would think that having a broken foot would be do difficult!! 😢 I just need to get out of this house... Hate relying on others.. But slowly and surely we will get there. Night girls. Sx

I have been told the same as well to keep it elevated all the time and only move for washroom etc.. My back aches so badly if I'm in bed or sitting all the time so I move around on the knee walker get few things done and keep my feet elevated again. I do this in turns but my leg keeps swelling everytime I put my foot down.. I am just putting up with it.

Aww Britta I feel your pain hun, espcially feeling low, I was really depressed last month & took a massive step back as I lost my 58yr old husband to Cancer last Oct, so being alone with no one to help is hard too!

But honestly you will get there it does take time, can you do much hun or are you in bed? Could you try Zapain instead of Morphine may help to feel less weepy too? You may notice little changes I didnt at the time until a few weeks had passed then you remember what you couldnt do!

Im wishing you a speedy recovery, & hoping your feeling a lot happier today!

As with all others on here, thinking of you all xx

Tina im so sorry to hear about your Husband, i can only imagine how you are feeling, especially now!, im sure i talk for the other ladies here that we are all here for you, i agree with the morphine, when i was on that mixed with the other medicine i was an anxious wreck, i would just cry at anything and the anxiety was dreadful, thankfully that has passed now i stopped them all, i see people here are talking about a knee walker, what is that? Xxxx

Hi Liz, knee walker is similar to the kids scooter but 4 wheels. You rest your knee of the leg you hurt on the seat and walk. Its so gud I can't tell you enough. I am not gud with the crutches and fell down with them 2 days after surgery. Thank god nothing happened to my ankle but was terrified to use the crutches again!! Only use the crutches for stairs now. You can search for knee walker in google images.

You will get there britta. I promise. I too thought I would never get there and my world was my bedroom bored depressed and crying most of the time, having to wait until others heard me calling for hot food and ? coffee. Now nearly 9 weeks since my fall I'm up and about around the house, all be it still restricted with what I can do, but getting there. Yesterday I was still using the ? to get from a to b. Have managed to cook meals for my son and myself which absolutely took all my strength. Today I've got up washed n dressed came downstairs then used crutches to make my own cup of coffee in 9 weeks then carry it in using one crutch into the living room!!!! Whoop Whoop go me. Able to put more pressure on foot today, but am paying for it as it's so swallan and pumping, but Bern told that this is normal. I can see the light!!! Lol. You too will get there. Rake it day by day. Sx

So sorry to hear about your husband Tina. I had a scare this time lady year. My hubby had a heart attack at 58. He has never been ill never taken a tablet and never had a visit to the doctor in all the years we have been together 30+ years. Thank god he didn't have to get surgery and made a great recovery. Just the thought of you going through this is hard to imagine. You will get there. I too cried n cried every day and still get down not being able to get out and do what I want to do. Run out of loo rolls yest with no one around to get some until hubby came home from work at 8.30pm faceless thunder as he had to go back out to get some, coz had his phone off and hadn't read the message, nothing g new there. We can all have a moan together but we will get there. Just takes longer than we would like it too.... Hope your day is better than yest. Sx

Border depression pain.... Tell me about it ladies. I was told to elevate for first 7weeks only getting up for the bathroom. I have found that folding my king-size duvet had been a great thing to use for elevation as it goes from side to side on bed which means I can move leg around for comfort. Still using it now. I just use a nice warm fleece blanket to cover me at night, works a treat for me. Pain killers are nearly off the radar only taking them twice a day paracetamol or ibuprofen in the morning then ZAPAIN at night as they help me relax and sleep. Pain and swelling is bad today as I've been applying more pressure on foot and using 1 crutch a few times... But. Ooooching my way through it.. Sx

    • Posted

Oooooo Oooooo girls the pain I'm in today is soooo bad. I've been putting more pressure on my foot and my god I'm paying for it. I was expecting pain but not like this. Only walking 30/40 yards in boot and by the time I get the boot off the swelling is bad. Just had to take the first ZAPAIN other than at bed time in days!!! This is going to be a long road, as I've been told ti experience a lot if pain once physio starts too. Have my first app nxt week!! Just don't know where to put my foot to ease pain. 😔. Sx

    • Posted

So the one step forward 1 step backwards must be pretty normal. I have minimal swelling but do get ambition mixed with capabilities and pay for it I'm so pleased to see the progress you've made. To just do something's normal like shower standing up. That's heaven once showerchair went. Well done to you.

    • Posted

My god no wonder your depressed Tina your grieving your husband and your independence. I think I've taken to much for granted my health my husband and mobility.  Do take care. And yes I ever did the retail therapy. Came home very sore and sorry but got what I went for.  I was never able to take the meds the allergies were almost worse than pain.

    • Posted

So true Jenni when you say mixing up ambitions with capabilities. Trying to push myself too fast I think definitely. The pain I had last night wasn't even eased by ZAPAIN. Just didn't know what to do with myself. 😢. Haven't mastered the standing in shower yet, that I know I'm not ready for. Lol. Just got up to use bathroom and already I'm feeling pain. So not going to over do the walking today!! Sx

Ah Sandra Im glad your husband made a full recovery hun, you both must have felt so worried... life can be such a tormoli.

lol the loo roll did make me laugh as we take the little things we are unable to do for granted, I can imagine his face when he had to go back out 🙉 I just wish I found this forum when I was at my lowest with No weight bearing & feeling so down & alone,

Although my Daughters & Grandaughters were great but just wanted my husband as he was such a caring loving man, ??

take each day as it comes Sandra it does get easiet honest but with different obstacles,

I went into Cardiff yesterday afternoon for food & drinks with friends & was very nervous was able to get a table in the 3 pubs we went into, & only got up to go to the loo which in some with all the stairs was a nightmare 🙉 Did enjoy & was nice to get out & socialise, but by god I paid the price when got home my foot & ankle was swollen & the pain was awful & had a job to sleep, but hey ho, like we said its going to take a long time to get back to 100%

But with each others support we will get there! Take care & look after your self ,

Thank you for your support xxx

Thank you Jenni, lot easier knowing we are all in a similar boat tho hun,

We do take life & the little things for granted until something like your independence is taken away from us,

Thank you for your support 💕🌸

Take care hun we will all get there together xx

Hi ladies. It's great to read all our posts. Just to see we are all getting there. Not without obstacles though. One thing it's taught me is not to push too hard, as you definitely will pay for it. Everyone tells you to push yourself to do things. But with this I would definitely advise not to do it, just go to where your pain allows you to. I've pushed myself these past 2days and God I paid for it yesterday and last night was just like going back to week 1 with the pain. Getting up this morning and putting boot on to just walk to the loo was so painful. Swelling had been bad too, even had to use ice pack which I haven't done since I was in hospital 7weejs ago. Did give me a buzz when I managed to make my own ? and carry it into living room myself using just 1 crutch... But now way pushing myself today. Consultant didn't really say how much pressure I could put on my foot, just said I could walk on it? But too much gives me electric like shocks across the bottom of my foot. Have my first appointment for physio on Wednesday but have to c/a asI've no-one here to help me dwn steps as taxi firm has said they can't take responsibility as I'm on crutches . been told if I was to use ambulance I may be stuck at the hospital for hrs as they wait for For other patients for full ambulance before leaving. My daughters are away hubby at work and my son will be out filming. So hopefully can get appointment for week after when my daughters are home from their holidays. 😢. So it's a easy day for me today. And hopefully pain free as much as poss. Sx

It certainly has been a godsend this site, its good to compare our daily battles, how did all you ladies break your ankles? I did mine getting up at 4am letting the cat out! Slipped on the stair and bounced back up them so spread eagled wrapped round bannisters, which was very embarrasing when the paramedics arrived as i was starkers!!! I can see the funny side now especially when hubby brought down a pj top for me!!! Xx

OMG liz. I would of lived to see that one. Soz to find it funny. I did mine just stepping over a 2ft rail. Not lifting my one foot high enough in farmstorse car park. Can't believe how much damage we have all done with simple falls. The other 3 women in ward with me all did theirs from stepping on dogs toys at top of stairs. One poor girl broke ankle and arm and badly sprained her other ankle. Don't know how she's coping. Sx

It dint seem to be a bad fall though but I think I twisted my ankle when fell down. I wish I never got on that chair and promise to never stand on anything even a stool after this!!

How about doing a slow twisting fall due to your puppy getting underfoot?  A lot of us did something stupid by not paying attention, but it always  could have been worse.  While walking my dog very slowly yesterday, I met a guy who told me that he had pulled a muscle or tendon, and it took him a year and a half of PT to get better.

Omg Liz , I think you have made us all chuckle 😂😊 bless you!

I had mine broke for me 😂 It was an accident went to my friends birthday garden party and a very very drunken friend of hers slipped off a wall & pulled me down with her, she bounced back and I ended up in A&E im 60 in a few weeks & have never broken anything before & hope never again, & think im going to be over cautious with walking!

Im continiously walking with my head down ( which Iv always been very upright)

Just come back from walking over the shops with my granddaughters & Im in bloody agony again & with good hip walking with a limp!

At least its good to share our trials & tribulations with each other so we know its all normal ladies!

Think we should all meet up when we are all mobile enough it would be lovely ?? 😊🌸xx

But the way things are going for me. I think it's going to be some time before I can do it. It's 9 weeks since my fall. Still not able to put full weight on foot and nor too good on crutches. Where abouts do you live. I'm. In Newport. Gwent. Sx

I know how your feeling liz. I go through stages where all I'm doing is crying. Then I have my husband asking me what's wrong!!!! He's been so lucky that I can't move otherwise he would be unable to move himself.. Lol. Feeling it more this were as both my daughters and grandchildren are away on holiday, have another week to go. I'm feeling. A bit let dwn by others who could come and visit, but carry on with their own lives, but I will be letting them know how I feel. 😢. Don't hurt to take 5mins out of your day when u finish work to call in. I'm the first to drop everything when they need it. But He ho... I also say thank goodness for the group where we can laugh cry moan and take/give advise. Sx

I've had promises by text that they will call in after work or on the weekend, but nothing not even a text to say they can't make it, then see on Fb that they are out having drinkies... Not that expect them to give their night out up, but don't say if you'd not calling in. I do feel alone.
