Still alive. Bonus. Using my repair time to have a holiday from my home to visit family. Flew to other side of country wheel chaired to and fro plane limped a long way to hire car compound knowing I'd bitten off a bit more than I could chew. But I made it. Friend and I had a few days in "beach shack" all the mod cons scrabble board few tins of beverage. Was our annual catch up and then so glad I got here. Two more days limping around with some family favs then home to my lot. Dreading the airport but know I can do it. So proud of myself for overcoming the fear of everything and leaving the comfort, seclusion and safety net of home. Was beginning to fear leaving the house. I have gained most movement. Still nerve damage problems but learning how to deal with them. I'm still flustered by how much time this injury takes to heal but it is what it is. Hope your doing well. I see a big light at tunnels end. It is there.

Wow Jenny good on you. Just what I could do with. I live the sea and can't wait to go. I got boot off on Fri so now FWB. But the pain I'm having is at 9. And now back on ZAPAIN!! Don't know if I should be getting this amount of pain. Don't get told just to try and now get rid of crutches too, but to use boot if I'm doing any long distance walking. Enjoy the rest of yr break. Good luck to you lis. Sx

Hi britta. I'm not doing quite as good as I hoped. Had OK for no boot and FWB with crutches for support and to slowly get rid of crutches. But the pain I'm having is bad, that bad I have had to go back to taking ZAPAIN. Consultant didn't tell me the pain I should expect, but didn't expect this. How are you doing sx

Omg Jenni you should feel so very proud of yourself, i panicked when hubby pushed me 5 minutes up road to our local pub lol, you must have had an amazing time!!! Like you i see light at the end of the tunnel, sandra have you had it x rayed? Maybe have a word with dr im sure you shouldnt be in That much pain bless you xxxx

had xray on visit time before (4 weeks ago) and all was well. Consultant was pleased. He did a lot of pushing , pulling and pressing this visit and was peased with me. But it is so painful and swells up a lot too. I have physio on Wednesday so will have a word then. One good thing tho, I dont have to keep putting that big ugly boot on and have to listen to the sound of velcro at 2 am on visit to the loo, can just get up use crutches and walk to the loo...lol  sad that the sound of the velcro on the boot got to me...lol  sx

used to love my own time, but not now, its hard work just getting my food. TV is rubbis, cant even consentrate on reading. Good luck for Friday. My boot came off on Friday so can now FWB with crutches but the pain is BAD!! swelling too. hard to get anything to fit as everything Ive tried on doesnt fit...had to go a size bigger so on my normal foot its mahoooooosive...lol

You've been in pain for a very long time I have pain but like a 3 in morning about a5 but haven't had pain meds for about 2 months. Was only on paracetamol from week 4 to 5 Since then nothing as too many allergies. I more used water for relief. I had pain fwb but not like your having. I think I'd be asking for another X-ray. I do hope you get relief soon

I am trying not to build my hopes up to much or Friday as you ladies have certainly been through it. I just want everything to go back to how it was before the accident, im guessing it will be some time, but just to get in the shower will feel like heaven smile i to have lots of books, i read one line 20 times then put it down lol x

i know, im worried too because nothing was mentioned at my appointmenton Friday about how much pain to expect. But then no one has ever told me about what pain to expect. A lot of the pain is around my bunion going into my big toe? why it sould be there i dont know. But the casts were all tght around there so ma be because of that? I hate all this not knowing. My mind goes into overdrive. sad sx

Liz I dont think we will ever be as it was before accident. A freind of mine broke her ankle, no where near as bad as mine and she still has problems wih swelling in heat (she lives in Aus) and her accident was 20yrs ago!!!yes 20yrs................to get in that shower once the cast is off is just awsome. The lack of consitration hit me straight away after the accident.Lets just get this cast off for you, then the work begins.....sx

Im really worried now i thought i was on the homeward stretch, looks like im wrong hearing your stories sad  im having no pain at all now just hoping it stays like this when cast off! X

Hi Everyone, my son comes home for the weekend from boarding hence was little busy and occupied. I'm doing good I think as no pain at all unless I over do things. I have heard stories of people even going back to sport etc after few months of surgery so it depends on individual recovery. Don't loose your hopes.

I have my 6 weeks appointment tomorrow and hoping for this cast to be removed and given a boot but never know. Do they take an X-ray on the 6 weeks appointment? How do they know that we are ready for lwb?

    • Posted

Hi deepus4u you will have to let me know how you get on tomorrow (good luck) my plaster comes off friday, so would love to know what to expect, i have no pain either it just swells up when i stand up, ive been told no x ray which seems odd as thought they would want to check everything x

Everyone is different liz. but will say even my physio has told me that it will never be the same again.!! My pain and swelling since leaving the boot off and fwb has been really really bad.  so back on the pain killers. I didnt have pain while in the boot. Cant walk without crutches, but putting as much weight as poss onto my foot. oooooch. Fingers and toes Xsd for you for Friday. sx

I really feel for you Sandra and im so not thinking this will be an easy ride sad i just hope there comes a time when everthing eventually goes back to normal......really hoping!! Xx
    • Posted

Hi deedpus. At my 6 week appt they did xray but I went into another cast for another 4 weeks. Then the boot. X ray  taken again when the 2nd cast came off then into the boot for another 4 weeks. Once you go into the boot it seems it will either be fwb or lwb as Ive heard both at our clinic, think its down to how bad a break you have had?. Good luck. But everything is much easier once the boot goes on, as you can take it off when resting and I didint have to wear it in bed...Heaven!!  sx
    • Posted

Omg Sandra i will cry if i have to go in another cast!!! 6 weeks has been so long!! Im panicking now lol x
    • Posted

dont panic we are all different. I had a really bad brake. Consultant told me there were lots of sml pieces that had to get put together again, so I may of needed the extra time in another cast? Even when he told me i could now start to walk in shoes hes told me not to do long walks without the boot!! So think i must of made a right old mess of my fall.  You will be fine I,m sure.  fingers Xsd.  sx
    • Posted

I made a right mess off mine to breaking it both sides i will keep everything crossed i dont need another cast. I think my family would send me away for 4 weeks if another cast needed lol xx
    • Posted

Sure Liz, I have my appointment with the dr at the hospital in the morning and with my GP in the evening. I will update you once I'm done with the hospital appointment. I'm really hoping to get this cast off. May be for a reason to reassure myself n family that my ankle is on the mend. I think my husband will be more upset than me if they put me on another cast 😂

    • Posted

Thanks Sandra, I hope they do an X-ray tomorrow. Really want to know how my ankle is healing and not sure exactly how many screws were fitted. I want to ask them tomorrow.

I just can't wait to have a proper shower/bath but very scared even thinking that I have to put my feet down and put wait on it 😱

    • Posted

I still cant stand in shower,  use a bath seat that goes from one side of bath to the other, so feel quite safe sat on that.Baths are a no go area for me anyway, as i have a bad back and can get down into the bath but struggle to get out even with help. So dont even go there. I dont really know wahts gone into my ankle as I suffer really bad panic attacks so didnt want to know what had to be done, just told my consultant to get on with it. But once the cast came off and I could see the injury for myself, and that everything seemed tobe healing well, thats when he toldme that they had to put in a bigger plates than they thought in the first place on the right of my ankle due to it being smashed badly, and plates n pins on the inside. So im happy with that. Hope it goes well for you. Keep us informed.  sx
    • Posted

mine broke on both sides too, but got told that the right of the ankle was really bad. But i didnt ask questions, and told them i didnt want to know how bad and just for them to do what was needed. I didnt want to go into a panic attack as they can get really bad.....some times gettting them for no apparent reason....and coming more and more..sad sx

I suffer with panic attacks to! Omg i see danger in everything!, i normally do all the driving but hubby does it now and i must drive him up the wall i am terrible lol, i used to be such a laid back person but now just see danger in everything and i hate it x

Tell me about it. Mine has defo got worse over the past few years. I hate them. Ive always been a bit of a "mind this mind that"..but not any more, Iseem to panick over such silly things. I evenhad two sml ones while waiting to go in for my physio , and while waiting in the car for my son to come out of Tesco!!!  Why? it is beginning to take over, so im trying to get appt with doc, but its like asking for gold!!! I hate it too.  sx

I know exactly how you feel lol. Another thing is i have turned into a hypercondriac (cant spell it) my poor family, i am driving them  nuts!! Im hoping once im ok this will all go away!!! X

Hi Liz, done with my appointment. It took around 2 and half hours in total but was worth it. Firstly they sent me for an X-ray and the dr called me in. At this point I thought something was wrong but it wasn't.. the dr showed me my X-ray and explained everything. I had 2 plates and 9 screws in there. He gave me a go for Fwb, yes that's right.. I'm so relieved. But told me to take it slow for a week to get used to.said I don't need the plastic boot ( the blue/grey one) and put me on the black one. I'm on my way home now🙂

Great news deepus, way forward now. I'm day 5 FWB but my pain and swelling is so bad. Back on ZAPAIN. Only hope it's just a few days thing and working muscles not used for nearly 3mths. 😢. Physio tomorrow so will ask her then. Good luck with everything. Sx

    • Posted

Thanks Sandra. Hope your pain gets better soon. My dr did say to expect pain from now and prescribed codiene but asked to reduce taking it slowly. Physio should contact me in 2 weeks I think. Check with your physio as my dr told me to let the physios know if the pain gets worse once I start physio and they can write to him for an appointment so that he can check again.

I am still using the knee scooter and so scared to put my feet down.. will try slight walking in the evening.

      Thanks, Deepa

    • Posted

Yes my consultant did say that if physio thought there was a problem she would get in touch with him and they would send me appt. Hot water bottle helped with pain in my calve and heel, then iced the swelling over the top and ankle, but still he pain on walking with crutches. 😢 God I could write a book on this! 😢 😢 it is frighteneing to put full weight down wishing you luck. Let me know how you get on. Sx

Thanks Liz. Hope yours goes well too. Good luck for Friday. I had to see my GP as well in the afternoon so tried put some weight on when I went out. Initially I was so scared but eventually did it and feels so weird. Had a long day with no elevation since I woke up in the morning so very tired and my leg is so swollen and double the size. Hurting too. It's an amazing feeling to see the leg with no cast on but being very scared and not letting my son (6 yrs old) come near to me smile

I really hope yours goes well on Friday as well and will pray for you. Tnx

Hi ladies, my excitement did not last long. Had very bad pain last night and back to painkillers. My leg was so swollen that one side of the incision has opened up little bit. May be it was not totally healed. So no bath until this recovers 😔 Hopefully it heals by itself but will keep an eye on it and contact the dr. Can't walk until it gets better as I don't want to make it worse. My dr has signed me off work for further 4 weeks so back to elevation

How are u today Sandra? Hope you are not in much pain and it's better.

    • Posted

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this deepus. This is a set back for you. 😢 my visit with physio went well for the first 20 mons then I had yet another panic attack which put an end to it for today. 😔. On the bright side she put my mind at rest telling me that everything I'm going through is normal, eg. pain and swelling. I'm nosat with foot in bowl of iced water as pain n swelling is bad. Don't know why as I've done nothing since coming home at 1pm!! Annoying. Hope everything heals soon.... Let's get you in that shower soon. Sx

My injury was march 24 and I have finally stopped splitting wound opened. Lots of betabine and once scab off and skin fused started goats milk and pawpaw to stop it drying and splitting. Have just a little scab on top of insision left. Still tender but I walked to strengthen ankle. Good luck hope your not off your feet for too long.
    • Posted

Oh no!!! That is a setback you didnt want sad i hope it heals soon, another 4 weeks must seem like a lifetime! Take care x
    • Posted

Ohh gosh jenni that took a long time for you. Mine doesn't seem that bad. One side is completely healed but it's the other side and 2 places and not much. It is definitely better and dried up since yesterday morning. It's the extensive swelling which caused it. I think if I can manage the swelling it will take a week to heal.

The leg is so very dry, I applied moisturiser everywhere else but very scared and not sure if I can apply it on the incision area. How did you use goats milk and pawpaw -not sure where I can find this if I have to..

Sandra- I hope it's better for you today. I am not sure why my leg is swelling so badly and I'm not doing much as well. Even sitting on sofa with leg down for 10 mins it's swelling.

    • Posted

My skin was very very dry. Got a good moisturiser and applied morning and night. I creamed over the scars and didn't have any problems. Skin now nice and moisture no dryness. I actually took photos this morning while still on my bed. Washed dressed and came dwn stairs and took more and compared... Swelling was bad with burning in my toes. So fed up with it all now. Will do a ice water soak as soon as I can get strength to move, ad I feel totally shattered even though I have not done anything?? We keeping going through girls and we WILL get there sx

Goats milk and paw paw was in chemist in Perth. Massaged into dry healed scar. I can only use goats milk products have a lot of allergies,, I'm very careful what I take and use. Those morphine based drugs are a killer.

Hi Ladies my cast is off smile cant believe how swollen and bruised it still is and leg feels so tight! Dr amazed at how bad i had broken it. Im. Now in a boot and can weight bear till it hurts he has booked me in for physio. The boot is so heavy i feel like flipping robocop lol, scars look good, scabby but good and omg my leg is sooooo hairy!!!!! So first bath tomorow and shave of leg!!!!! Xx
    • Posted

My incisions never opened. What does your Doctor say, because this doesn't seem normal.

    • Posted

Congrats liz. Great news. Boot is heavy, but at least you can take it off now when resting. I had a load of bruising once cast cane off too and it was 7weeks after fall, they took a while to go. Be very careful when shaving your leg, as you will have a lot of skin that will come away when you shower /bath. I ended up cutting myself and took ages to heal. Plenty of good moisturiser will help. You will feel like a princess when that shower is over. Enjoy. Now the hard work begins but please don't expect too much too soon. We have a long road ahead but we shall get there. Great news enjoy first night free. But elevate still. 😊 sx

    • Posted

Hey Liz, congratulations!! Feels like a big achievement isn't it? Yes the boot is very heavy. Please don't hurry and take it slowly.. my dr said weight bearing as long as it doesn't hurt to me as well but I think I over did it as I had a long day and my leg was so swollen that it opened up the incision. I must say that my leg is more swollen now than when in cast for some reason. Please take your time as anything you do to hurry the process will actually take more longer. I'm waiting for the physio as well but they told me it can take 2 weeks for them to contact me. Good luck and happy bath😁

Apparently is common an skin drys out fast as not much fat on ankle. Dr not concerned but must be careful not to infect. I've got sanitiser in every room. Most important to have it in toilet to sanitise before touching clothes crutches or cane/ wheelchair they are all a germ fest.

Hi, how's everyone doing? My incision area has finally healed and dried now. Had my proper shower yesterday and also started walking with crutches. Only for few minutes though.. not much pain but just scared to put full weight yet but the swelling is still bad.

How are you doing Liz and how's your pain Sandra?

    • Posted

Great news about everything healed. How long were you in that fab shower, I just didn't want to get out of my first one. Still not able to stand and still using bath seat. To be honest I haven't even tried to stand. And will only do it when I know I'm more steady. Pain has subsided a lot thank God. Hurts when walking with crutches but nowhere near as bad as it was. Swelling had not been that bad either. Physio tomorrow let's hope panic attacks stay away. We are getting there slowly. Kept going ladies..... Love to all sx

    • Posted

Haha.. I thought it was just me 😀 My son was shouting from outside the bathroom asking me to come out as I was in there sooo long! I am using a bath stool in there. Dint want to have a bath yet as scared of the incision area but it seems fine so tomorrow bath!!! Still have that skin to clear. Good to hear that your pain has reduced and is bearable. Good luck with your physio tomorow.

Hi ladies, im having trouble with this page, i write then says error occured and lose what ive wrote? Anyway, had a bath Saturday and had a complete meltdown i was  so scared and hated it so hubby went and brought me a bath board omg its amazing! I sit on that under the shower and am so happy....and clean lol, leg and and ankle still very swollen and needs moisturising a lot but no pain smile had a walk out but boot so heavy and tired me out but loved it xx

Great news. I use bath board. Best thing ever. Who would think just a shower would do this for us. Lol. Cream cream cream. My dry skin was very bad. But religiously cream twice a day now and all good. Nice that pain has gone too. Yes the boot is heavy nxt step for you is to get rid!!! Recovery here we cone!! 😊. Sx

    • Posted

I know!!! I sit on that bath board for ages and is the best feeling ever!! Im going to finally shave my leg today, boy is it hairy lol but took someones advice on here who said to wait till all dead skin came off, who would think that doing such a simple thing would bring so much happiness!!!! X
    • Posted

Think that advocate from me!! I couldn't wait to get that razor out. But the skin was to thin and loads of dead skin. Every shower. More n more cane away. I did cut myself on first shave ad too impatient. Lol. But looked like a gorilla. Lol 🙊 🙊. Oooooo the joys. Of bath boards. 😁 😁. Physio today was hard. Came away at 10.15 and still aching badly. 😢 😢. But managed more than last week. Have to practice walking without the hop onto good foot. Harder said than done... First me anyway. She wants to get me onto the treadmill next week!!!! Enjoy the showers. Sx

Good news Liz, I'm not having much pain as well but just little on the heel and back of my heel when I put more weight.

I'm lucky in a way as I don't have much hair on my legs so will wait for couple of more days until all of the bad skin falls off.

Sandra, how was your 1st physio appointment. I got the physio appointment on Monday morning but very scared. Is physio very painful?

The first available appointment at my nearest hospital is end of August so I said ok to take up an appointment this coming Monday at a far hospital. My husband has taken off for this Monday but not sure how I can get there every time. How often do you have your physio sessions? Is it weekly once? Thanks,

    • Posted

Hi deepus.. Had my first appt. 5weeks ago, Didnt do much to be honest. She gave me exercises to do at home ready or the following weeks appt. I did find a few of them difficult, as my brain wouldnt link up with my foot (if you know wht i mean). The foot jut wouldnt do what i wanted it to do. lol. Each week the exercises have increased and got harder. But the first 3 weeks were just gentel onse that i could do from my chair. But the last 2 weeks its been in the gym. My last one was yesterday where I had to try to walk without the 'hop' Im doing. As when the full weight is on my bad foot it pains bad so I seem to bring my good foot i ine with the bad one instead of putting one foot in front of the other. Harder than I thought. So this is my excersise homework ready for nx week. She had told my she will be hoping to get me onto the treadmill nxt week!!! The pain I hd from yesterdays appt was bad all day. But I must say although it does give pain, my colour is now near to normal instead of bright red , the swelling had reduced to nearly nothing unless i over do the walking and can now put the cleaner over the down stairs using one crutch. Im still unable to walk without the crutches but he has said the aim now is to get rid of one twithin the nxt 2 visits, then to walk free after that. so fingers Xsd. It seems Ive been very lucky with the physio appts, because I had my first one come throug  even befor the boot came off for good. She has told me tht they normally try to get you walking cutch free within 8 visits. Sa you have to travel a distance for yours. But hope it goes well. Let me know how you get on. sx

Great to hear you have now started your physio, I had 3 light ones with each one there were little extra every week, then onto the gym., with increased exercise every week. Tomorrow it's treadmill time. I'm not looking forward to it as I've been in a lot of pain all day, laying on bed now and just don't know where to put my foot!! 😢 😢 😢 horrible day. 😢 😢. Sx

Hi Ladies, i have to wait till August till my physio but apart from swelling i feel  im doing  very well smile  my scars look very good and i  can walk up to shops in my boot, and can do little jobs now i really feel like im winning, hope you are all doing well to xxxx

Great to hear this lis. I've been so lucky with the physio appts. Given to me straight away. Had 1 yesterday which was very painful to get through. Bike treadmill and trying to walk without this bloody Charlie Chaplin walk!! But finding it hard to keep feet straight as the pain hits bad. But will get there. Just want it now and not later!!! Impatient Sandra!!! 😁. Sx

Sandra does your leg and ankle still swell up? I try to move my foot when boot off but cant due to swelling, i cant wait for Physio so i know what im meant to be doing lol, im same as you, getting very impatient, its been one hell of a journey!!!! Xx
    • Posted

Hi liz yes  still get swelling, most of mine now is around the ankle just at the side of the ankle bone where most of my damage is. do get some swelling over the top of my foot if im on it too long, but this has redused over time and no where near as bad as it was. I dont get any swelling in my leg as such, just a little over the top form each side of ankle . The pain i still get is bad, really bringing me down. Starting to loose t now with everything. Fed up of being alone all day watching silly boring TV progs. can only watch so much. Have managed to do a bit of painting in the kitchen (step and skirtingboards), but then couldnt get up!!! had to shuffle along on my bum to the back room where the table n chairs are so i could use the chairs as leaverage.....frown mad me so mad...Im sure physio will help once you start, but im finding it slow. She keeps telling me that im trying to run before i can walk....ok for her though, just want to get on with it.....life is hell at the moment.....hope you get a faster recovery once you start your physio but its a wait you have had. Think ive beeen lucky with my appts  sx

Oh how i know about daytime tv sandra!!!! I sometimes feel im going slowly insane with boredom!!! I can potter around doing little things but i want to be driving and having my independence back and not keep relying on people, i long to walk to town going in every shop and going to the  pub and dancing to all the silly songs lol xx

tell me about it liz. I have had a few drives in the car. Consultant told me that i have to be able to do emergancy stop, But you would do it automaticaly anyway. Its not as comfortable as i thought, and only do short ditance with someone with me IK long to just go out for a drink and to be able to sit and enjoy instead of pain and dicomfort and have to leave early because of pain. Just the thought of having to go to the loo using crutch puts me off. I did go to Sainburys yesterday with my daughter after physio, but had a panic attack so couldnt wait to get home. Cant win...Tried a bit of a bit of weeding but as we have chippings i found it difficult to walk on with crutch as it was too uneven so had to give up,sad  sx

I cant remember when you broke yours, im guessing before me, it must have felt good driving your car, i love bootsales and long to go and walk round for hours on a sunday like i used to, my highlight of the week is morrisons when i sit in the mobility cart lol, did you suffer with anxiety before this happened? X

i had my fall on April 11th. seems a lifetime ago.  I enjoy bootsales too. I just need to get a visit to the sea, I love the sea and missing it so much.My son is learning to drive and has his test in Sept. Just need the pain to ease off a bit, then he can get a lesson in and we could drive down to the nearest place that we both love. Penarth..and he can buy me what Ive been dreaming bout... Whippy ice cream and flake '99 and a big one....lol  Mobility cart is one thing i have always said i would never sit in....and as yet I havent and if it ment using one then I just wouldnt ever go out. Bad enough getting wheeled around in a wheelchaire. thank God that part of this has not finished. Just need to get rid of these bloody crutches now. But cant see that happening for a while the way im walking. The pain is too bad. sad I have suffered with anxiety since I had my son 18yer ago. Dont know why, but it seems to of got worse these past few years. Ihad three big ones while waiting in A & E when fall happened. Thank God my girls where with me. Horrid feeling, even had one the other night while asleep, woke me up in hell of a state. I have had a few while doing physio too, first one was a big one where they had to stop, only getting 10 mins in!!. Have appt at doctors in August to try and get them sorted. sx

Liz, I'm not sure when you had your fall but we both had our 6 weeks appointment in the same week.. I had my surgery on May 19th. Are you having much pain in your ankle? I have swelling but not much pain actually. I do have pain when I over do the physio exercises or walk for long. I was also told that I will have to wait till August for physio but I chose to go to a far hospital in the county. Wanted to start physio asap as I need to get back to work asap.. need to get the finances back on track😔

I se that the swelling is reducing day by day and not as much as it was before. I am able to put maximum weight while walking with boot on and crutches but a bit scared to put 100 percent. I tried once and it dint pain much but very scared to do again.

Penarth is in Wales. Not far from Cardiff. I live in Newport which is ont about 40 mins away from Panarth. Its avery special place for us. My mum n dad used to take us there when we where little, then used to take all 5 grandchildren at the time every Sunday. The kids loved it, rain or shine. Time with grandma and grandpy was special times. Myself and my son always spend time at the sea every year on day trips, but this year has been hospital ,bed, settee .  grrrr  lets just hope we hae sun in Sep/Oct as that the time Im thinking things may improve for me , so we can get out and enjoy it a lot more.  sx

Aah Sandra.. I feel for you. Must be very hard to deal with the panic attacks when dealing with the ankle recovery. Hope you feel better soon.

Believe me or not I wasn't confident enough to go anywhere yet. The only time I am stepping out of the house is for hospital appointments- 2nd week, 6th week and physio this week. We live in a flat upstairs and have around 12to 15 steps to get up or down and have nothing to hold on.. I sit on the stairs and go up/ down one by one.. the terrible part is the last step upstairs.. can't get up even with my husbands help. Just like you, I continue on my bum to the living room sofa where I'm able to lift myself onto the sofa 😁

I was the same for the first 8 weeks. only getting off my bed for hospital appts. I had to stay in my bedroom as i couldnt manage the step to my utillity room to use the down stairs loo. I didnt have hand rail either, so had to use my bum a lot...lol took it out of me going back up.  I also have 4 steps outside to get up n down to get to the car for appts. I can do them ok now with crutch, but early days i had to have a chair placed on every step to get back in through the front door!!  so embarrassing with a few people getting their roofs done across the road from me. I know what you mean about trying to get up from last step on stairs too, my hardest one was the top one, havng to get up from my bum to my feet, untill my daughter had brain wave and placed heavy ottoman for me to sit on at the top of stairs, then all i had to do was turn muself around and 'hop' off to bed room.....oh ...does seem so long ago now, so thinking of it i have come a long way since then as i now have a rail thats been put up by my son in law and can now walk up the stairs with 1 crutch.....cant wait to go up one foot in front of the other...thats next thing.....sx

liz so glad your not having pain. this is the thing thats holding me back i think, as mine can be so bad. I did reduce my meds, but finding im increasing them again. most of the pain im getting is at the back of my heel over the top of my foot and right side of ankle where biggest part of damage was done. Really thought it would of eased a bit by now. But physio has told me that it was a bit of a mess to patch up and the pain is normal!!  sad Swelling done down a lot but gets ver swollen on my right ankle making my foot look very deformed and ugly. thought it may of been my age as to why i think is taking so long to feel an better, ut looks like your doing great with no pain. Im jealous  lol  Had a great 60th girlie weekend away at Chedder Somerset in a log cabin and hotub with fab spa treatments from my daughters and my son. we had so much fun. Im ready forit again aftr this i can tell you. sx
