Bruising around my knee

I had fallen on my knee several days ago.  It immediately started to swell up right after.  I was not able to put my full weight on it because it would buckle on me.  I have went to a doctor and they did an xray on it and nothing is broken.  I have to wait til the 5th of January to get with an orthopedic.  My thing is that I have been able to get more movement out of it and the swelling is slowly going away but now I have brusing on the inside of my leg by my knee and under my knee on my calf, but no bruising actually on my knee.  I'm just curious on what it might be?

It takes weeks or even months for a knee to heal after it takes a blow like a fall. Had you started icing immediately and elevating you would have sped up the process. You can ice frequently to relieve swelling and pain but it probably will not help speed the healing. Remember, Xrays only show bone damage. It takes an MRI to assess soft tissue concerns and be using, ligament and tendon damage fall under that category.

What it might be?  You fell on your knee!!!!!  Ice, elevate, anti-inflammatories.  Could take a week to 10 days depending how much you bruised it and the surrounding tissue/muscles.
